Fran & Isaac
While things are a touch warmer at this time of year, we thought we’d bring a little autumnal inspiration to cool things down a bit with today’s charming Perth Hills engagement shoot. Fran and Isaac chose Isaac’s parent’s farm in Pickering Brook for their session with Piotrek Ziolkowski, and we just adore the results. The couple explain that they spend quite a lot of time at the farm on the weekends, and a couple of months during winter, so knew it would be perfect for their shoot, which featured the stunning orchard, lush green paddocks and a cameo by the resident horses.
“Our first meeting was at Wave Rock Weekender Festival in Hyden, Western Australia,” Fran remembers. “Isaac approached me while I was eating a pizza, and he said to me that I looked cute trying to eat it! We talked a couple times over the rest of the weekend. Two weeks later, we met again at a Rubik’s Cube Party, an interesting party where you wear the six colours of the rubik’s cube and have to change your clothes with the other party goers until you have one colour. It was after Isaac disputed what he thought were my attentions towards another guy that he kissed me.”
Fran, who is Brazilian, says that Isaac was the first, and maybe the only, Australian she has met who has the “latin spirit”, in that he can be friendly, warm, involving and funny, but with the European blood to tell you that you are special and different than the others, although she laughs that Latin people can be super volatile, and Isaac is not like that.
“It is not really funny, but on one of our first nights together he took me to a park around Bibra Lake, quite close to the lakes. It was end of October and was quite a bit of a warm night. He took the blanket and pillows from the back of his car – we were very excited about the ambience just on the side of the lake under the beautiful stars, but half way through the date we had to pack everything up because the mosquitos were making a big banquet of us!”
A memory that best describes the first time Fran realised that Isaac was truly special to her, and more than just a friend. “Hours before one of our first dates, I sent a text to Isaac trying to cancel our date, saying we might be better to just be friends. In my mind, I wasn’t looking for a relationship, and I didn’t want to hurt him if we were to get involved. He replied saying that the best part of his day was remembering that he would meet me later that day and he asked to keep the date, and we could talk about it then. He was very straight forward when I saw him that night. “I have friends, I don’t need more friends,” he said. “But I want to be with you…” It was from this, I think he got me!”
“He is a very romantic guy, even though he does not declare to be one,” says Fran. “He often brings me flowers that he has collected on his parent’s farm, and leaves them on my side of the bed. He also calls me to look at the moon when the sky is clear and says that he made it for me.”
Of their sweet proposal story, Fran tells, “After some time apart (me back in Brazil and Isaac in Australia), I came to Australia to visit him while I was waiting for my visa process to move there permanently. Isaac’s mother had given him, in secret, her old engagement ring – a beautiful, antique ring from the 50’s. I had actually found the ring when I was organising his sock drawer. I remember looking at the ring. and I could hardly control my thoughts and emotions. I put it back and tried to not think about it anymore! Fortunately the next day, coming back from a walk in Fremantle, Isaac got a little way behind and called me back. I turned, and he was on his knees with a sock in his hand, and I knew what was happening. He asked in Portuguese, “Casa comigo?” … “Marry me?”…
