If you’re planning a picnic or outdoor event, these sweet cutlery holders will add beautiful detail to the day. They’re so very easy to make, and can hold all sorts of different utensils – or even invitations, seating arrangements – the list goes on! But for today’s tutorial, imagine lovely packed lunches, hay bales, sweeping countryside views and your nearest and dearest celebrating with you!
You can make these from fabric or paper, however paper does hold shape a little more firmly. You can also use double-sided tape if you don’t have a sewing machine, just make sure it’s very sticky!
What you’ll need:
- Paper of choice (I used smaller cutlery and my paper is A5 in size. Look for A4 if you’ve got larger cutlery). Look in charity shops or have a dig about the antique stores for some beautiful vintage florals!
- Scissors (or guillotine if you’re making these in bulk)
- Sewing machine (or double-sided tape)
- Cutlery (wooden cutlery would also look stunning!)
What to do:
Step 1. Fold your paper in half, leaving approximately one inch of overlap. Make sure the pattern on the paper is facing the right way!
Step 2. Using scissors (or a guillotine), cut your pieces on paper in half. If you’re using a larger sheet of paper, you may be able to cut more pieces.
Step 3. Once all your pieces of paper are cut, using a sewing machine, carefully sew down each side to secure the edges. Be aware this may blunt your needle for further sewing projects, so perhaps keep one aside just for paper projects!
Step 4. That’s it! Pop your cutlery in, present them in a lovely box or with each picnic bundle, and you’re finished! You can make these ages in advance, and use just about any paper to match with your theme. You could even stamp or paint the paper if you’re feeling super crafty!
