Kate & Luke
With torrential rain on their outdoor wedding, Kate and Luke had to take a different approach to their rustic Baxter Barn wedding and what do you know? It may have even been more magical than they ever could have imagined. The happy couple choosing Perla Photography to capture their day.
Kate kicks us off with the story of how she and Luke came to be. “We met through mutual friends years ago, however, got to know each other better doing rock ‘n’ roll dance classes after stumbling across a rock ‘n’ roll bar one night after a friend’s birthday.”
Kate chose an Essense of Australia gown from Fairytales Bridal, telling, “I wanted a relaxed lacey dress to suit my personality and also the type of wedding that we were having. After looking at many dresses on my own I took my sister and mum to look at a couple I liked to help make a decision, although they didn’t make it much easier as they liked them all.”
Fun lights spelt out the newlywed’s names, Kate remarking, “Luke and I were at a friend’s wedding a few months before ours and they had rope lighting with their names written and we loved it. After the wedding I tried to find someone to make one for us, however, I couldn’t. My friend Jess who was at the same wedding secretly organised for one to be made for Luke and me as a surprise for me on the day.”
The couple chose Baxter Barn for their wedding. “We had both the ceremony and the reception at Baxter Barn. We were drawn to Baxter Barn because of the laid back style of the venue and we loved the surrounding scenery. We felt like the venue suited our personalities as we love camping and the bush.”
Pouring rain led to an indoor ceremony, Kate remembering, “We were planning on having the ceremony in Baxter Barn’s rose garden, however, the day of our wedding brought torrential rain and wind so it was moved inside. Everyone else seemed to be much more concerned about the weather than Luke and I were, we were laughing and joking about how perfect it was.”
The bride walked down the aisle to Truth by Bloc Party , played by friends Nick Moltzen and Glen Drummond.
The couple chose Maja Babic to conduct the ceremony. “We wanted our ceremony to be personal and also to reflect our relationship. We arranged for the venue to serve drinks on arrival so that the ceremony was more laid back and festive. We chose to have our friend Matt read some verses from a Metallica song Nothing Else Matters as the lyrics appealed to us. We also wrote our own vows so that they included the things most important to us and our marriage.”
“Maja Babic (Loved Up Weddings) was fantastic as our celebrant. She made us feel so relaxed and walked us through the whole process. The way she spoke to us during the ceremony made me feel like we’d known her for years.”
Of their photographer the bride remembers, “Laura our photographer was amazing, we can’t believe how many beautiful images she captured. Throughout the day Laura made us feel so relaxed and she was incredibly efficient.”
“Luke made sure that we had some time on our own on the day. After the photos were taken and before we entered the reception we sat together and had a glass of champagne alone to celebrate.”
Cake Ink created the stationery and beautiful cake with glorious sugar flowers, for the day, the bride explaining, “My sister in law Janelle from Cake Ink along with her business partner Samone made our cake and invites and they were both amazing. The cake was like a work of art I really didn’t want to cut it!”
“My friends and I put together flower arrangements in jars to be scattered around the venue on the day. Luke made all of the fairy light jars to hang around the room.”
Of the first dance, Kate tells, “We chose Florence and the Machine – You’ve got the Love. We love this song and thought that the lyrics were fitting. I was very worried about our first dance as Luke had a broken collarbone and shouldn’t have been dancing at all! I knew he’d ignore the pain so I was afraid he’d hurt himself more.”
Congratulations on your marriage Kate and Luke! Thank you for sharing the stories of our day with us! Thank you also to Perla Photography for sharing today’s celebration!
