This week on ‘Behind The Door With’, I’m continuing my quest to sneak behind the scenes of some of Australia’s best wedding businesses with a super unique wedding venue, The Shearing Shed. I love venues that have a bunch of different spaces for your big day and The Shearing Shed has so many! Located on Phillip Island in Victoria, the venue is nestled in lush gardens on an industrial/rural estate. It has that fantastic rustic, vintage feel to it that is so beautiful on its own you don’t have to decorate it very much to make it feel special.
I meet Abbie, the manager of The Shearing Shed, and she is kind enough to take me through the different spaces the venue has to offer. First is the beautiful barn, with exposed wood beams, a rustic wood wall and tin roof. I love that this space means you can have your ceremony in any weather, and Abbie tells me they offer it as a backup for couples with outdoor ceremonies too.
The billabong is perfect for couples wanting a garden ceremony with an Australian edge. Surrounded by 20 acres of garden, the photo opportunities are endless and in fine weather I can imagine there is plenty of space for guests to spread out and enjoy the county air. The Shearing Shed itself is a renovated 1950’s real shearing shed with a rustic brick fireplace and timber and painted concrete floors. Split over two levels it can work for both a cocktail or sit down wedding reception.
The newest space, which Abbie is really excited about, is a lake front marquee area. With beautiful waterfront views it will be able to accommodate even larger wedding parties than the shearing shed and provide another amazing option for couples that want a different style of wedding.
As far as food goes, Abbie tells me that they have a large kitchen on site which makes it possible to cater wedding menus to suit the couple’s needs. Be it cocktails and canapés, a sit down dinner, a feast or BBQ buffet, they can do it. The Shearing Shed is also ideal for the couple on a budget or those wanting a fuss free, simple wedding. With so many options I’m sure everyone can find a wedding package that suits them.
I asked Abbie if she considered The Shearing Shed a destination wedding venue and she said that “Phillip Island is the perfect getaway for guests, and we encourage them to come down and stay for a weekend.” As Phillip Island is becoming a more popular destination for weddings, Abbie tells me that she and a bunch of other local vendors are in the process of forming a collective to work together and help couples plan their big day in the unique area. Exciting times ahead!

About Amelia Waddell of Make Your Day Wedding Styling: I’m a wedding stylist and proud store owner who loves to chat weddings with everyone and anyone! I love to talk shop with other business owners (particularly over some chocolate cake!) and am the first to try and have a sticky beak behind the scenes of any event. My free time is spent ‘investigating’ new cafes, stores and events.
