As I was making these I was imagining a beautiful white winter wedding with the bride draped in faux fur and snowflakes drifting from the sky. In reality, most Australian winter weddings probably take place in the lovely crisp sunshine but a girl can dream can’t she?
Either way, your guests will love these orange-spiked hot chocolate favours. So simple to make and so delicious when melted in a big mug of warm milk!
I added marshmallows on top because they look cute and taste yummy but they are totally optional.
Orange Hot Chocolate On A Stick
1/2 cup pouring cream
395g can sweetened condensed milk
4 cups dark chocolate chips
finely grated rind of 1 orange
2 teaspoons natural orange extract
40 marshmallows (optional)
You will also need 40 cut-off paper straws or lollipop sticks
Grease and line a 26 x 16cm slice tin with baking paper. Place the cream and condensed milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until hot but not boiling. Remove from heat. Stir through the chocolate until melted and smooth. Set aside for 10 minutes.
Place the saucepan back over medium heat and whisk until melted and shiny. Stir in the orange rind and extract. Pour into prepared pan and set aside for at least 12 hours or overnight to set.
Turn the chocolate out on to a chopping board. Using a long, sharp knife, cut the chocolate into approximately 3 x 3cm squares.
Secure a marshmallow on top of each square with a paper straw or lollipop stick. Package up in cute bags and tie with twine or ribbon.
Each square will flavour one big mug of warm milk.
Makes 40 squares of hot chocolate.
– You can use a knife dipped in hot water and then dried to make very smooth cuts through the chocolate.
– Try other flavourings like coconut or peppermint extract.
– You could also roll the chocolate squares in cocoa.
