Nothing screams ‘honeymoon’ more than the Caribbean. Crystal clear water, snow-white sand, a tropical backdrop, rum punch and a laid-back atmosphere. Perfection!

What’s especially great about the Caribbean is that the collection of 7000 islands that make up this region (only 10% are inhabited) all vary from one to the next – in culture, influences, activities on offer and general atmosphere. So no matter what type of honeymoon you’re after, you’re bound to get it here.

All you have to do is choose which islands you want to explore!

If you’re after a honeymoon that includes a little bit of everything – nightlife, shopping and adventurous activities, then look no further than…

Aruba

Aruba is a popular island with tourists. It has perfect weather year-round, plenty of beaches and a lovely main town. Activities include: snorkelling, hiring a catamaran, hiking and jeep tours. Or simply relaxing on a picturesque beach with a cocktail in hand.

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is the perfect way to combine both big city pleasures and island seclusion. Here you can enjoy romantic candlelit dinners and dance the night away in a salsa club. Alternatively you could take it easy by visiting a rum distillery, or taking a dip at one of the many beaches.

Dominican Republic

If you want your honeymoon to be jam packed with adventure then you would be best checking out the Dominican Republic. Hiking, all sorts of water-sports and cycling are on offer here. But if you’re after a fine dining, luxury honeymoon as well, then this might not be the best choice.

Pure Romance

No matter what you choose to do or where you go, all honeymoons are romantic. But it’s true to say that some honeymoons are more classically romantic with plenty of alone time and relaxing activities. On these types of honeymoons you can truly wind down after all your wedding preparations and process the life changing step you’ve both taken.

Antigua

What’s great about Antigua is the fact that it’s not overly commercial so it’s perfect for honeymooners. Take in breathtaking views at one of the many secluded beaches and enjoy exploring the romantic ambiance many of the resorts have to offer.

British Virgin Islands

The British Virgin Islands are another great option if you’re looking for plenty of peace and quiet. Here you can learn to sail, or for the more experienced, hire a yacht of your own for complete privacy.

Turks and Caicos

Just over an hour’s flight from Florida, Turks and Caicos is perfect for ultimate honeymoon romance. Grab a picnic, hire a yacht and sail to a secluded island – heaven! Be warned, Turks and Caicos is incredibly quiet, with no real main town!

A Cultural Experience

Do you consider yourself a culture vulture – someone who likes to immerse themselves in the cultural landscape of wherever they are visiting? If this sounds like you, then these Caribbean islands are a must see…

Anguilla

If you consider yourself a bit of a foodie and prioritise meal-time on your holidays then you should definitely check out Anguilla. Considering its small size, Anguilla boasts a plethora of places to eat. Ranging from local street food, right up to fine dining – here there is bound to be something to suit every taste and budget. Besides, there’ll be no reason to eat at the same place twice.

Curaçao

However, if you’re more into art and architecture, then hot-foot it over to Curaçao. Curaçao has a real cultural mix, with various nationalities and ethnicities all represented here, in what makes for a real cosmopolitan place to visit.

St. Kitts & St. Lucia

If you could give David Attenborough a run for his money in the nature loving stakes, then St. Kitts and/or St. Lucia are must-see places for you as both locations boast breathtaking scenery and wildlife. On St. Kitts you can wander through rainforests, explore sugar plantations and even a volcano, while on St. Lucia, you can take in the glorious beauty of the sea by exploring the island’s coral reefs.

If you have your heart set on enjoying your honeymoon in total style, then fortunately the Caribbean specialises in luxury getaways! If you’re keen to go all out on your honeymoon, then these islands have your name written all over them.

The Cayman Islands

Despite being a British territory, these islands are more reminiscent of mainland America -Florida in particular. And if it’s a luxury resort you’re hoping to stay in, then the Cayman Islands have plenty of choices. Blissfully relax while enjoying beautiful coastlines, botanical gardens and even explore their underwater marine park…via submarine!

St. Barthélemy

St. Barthélemy, or St. Barts for short is famous for being the island of choice for the rich, the famous and the beautiful, so if this describes you or the company you like to keep then make this gorgeous place your honeymoon location. Here you can do all your usual island activities but in exclusively high-class settings – and you may do so while rubbing shoulders with celebrities!

Travel Tips

The Caribbean is notorious for being hefty on the hip pocket, but don’t let that put you off. Accommodation can be expensive, but there are ways around this if you’re on a budget. Save by trying local street food, use public transport, or look out for all-inclusive deals. However, it is your honeymoon, so when is there a better time to splurge on a holiday?

When to go:

The peak tourism time is December to April, when the northern hemisphere leaves behind their frosty weather for the sunnier climes of the Caribbean. It’s particularly busy around Christmas, Easter and school holidays, where prices spike up, and many islands sell out!

You can save money by travelling during the low season (April-December), where accommodation is heavily discounted and the islands are much quieter. However, some places close and the weather can be quite muggy. Remember to also be aware that hurricane season is most prevalent in August and September, where again some places just won’t be open.
