The team at Evernew Studio combines photographers and cinematographers – a complete package for your wedding day. A wedding seen through the eye of a photographer differs remarkably from that seen through the eye of a cinematographer’s lens. To have both filming your wedding from the same studio, is a bonus in that there will be an innate understanding between the two, borne of working closely together. Different perspectives, different emphasis, but both delivering the images that will continue to delight you in the years to come!
How did you get into photography?
We started shooting photos as a way to express our creativity and document our own day to day lives. Evernew Studio began as a fresh approach on documenting weddings. We wanted to start a studio that allowed our couples to relax and not have to plan their day around their photography package by offering full day coverage from the beginning. We believe that the best moments happen outside the usual 6-8 hours that most photographers and videographers cover.
What do you love about wedding photography?
We love that all weddings are completely different and each couple have their own unique story. We love the opportunity and challenge that documenting weddings provide for us. We love hearing back from our couples within minutes of them receiving the photos, usually in tears, describing how we allowed them to relive their day.
How would you describe your photography style?
Simple, Timeless and Elegant. When something is simple and free of clutter, it is most effective. We pride ourselves on our simplistic approach to our photography and video work. We also focus on bringing out the emotion and story of the day.
To be a successful photographer, do you have to have an eye for detail?
To be a successful photographer you do need an eye for detail, but it isn’t just a focus on the minor details. Sometimes we have to look at the bigger picture. We have found more often than not that it is the ability to evaluate the scene, notice the relationships, understand an expression and to find a connection. To truly be present in the moment and to put ourselves in the couples’ perspective.
How do you help your couples relax while having their photos taken?
Our aim is to build a relationship with our couples. We meet them more than once so they feel completely comfortable with us which lets them relax and be themselves which comes out in the photos we take. We don’t like giving too much direction – its obvious when a photo looks fake, so we try to coerce a moment and make things happen naturally.
Are the surroundings/venue important to you in your photography – or do you like to concentrate more on the people?
Capturing the day is about capturing both the surrounding and the couple. We always try to make a strong connection between the two. There is a certain kind of poetry in the relationships between people and places and that bond only becomes stronger when places have special meaning to the people in them.
You like to use the natural light in your photography – what does this mean for the quality of the photographs?
It means they look natural.
You also offer cinematography as an integral part of your business. Can couples book you for one or the other (photography or cinematography) or is it best to book you for both, to keep the look of the images and films cohesive?
Yes, together and separately. It is great to keep things cohesive. What we have found is the BEST benefit of booking our photography + cinematographer is that we work together on the day. Our photographers and cinematographers know what each other are thinking before the event even happens. We aren’t competing for shots or getting in each other’s way. The photographer cares for the video and the cinematographer cares for the photos, you won’t find such a strong relationship anywhere else.
Do you ‘see’ the wedding as a cinematographer differently from how a photographer sees it?
Much, much different. We could go on for hours about this (we often do). We are both capturing similar events, but with different goals, with different mediums and with very different impacts.
What packages do you offer bridal couples?
Two AMAZING packages, one for photography and one for cinematography. We have add ons to those packages. But that’s all we can say!
Do you do a lot of planning (with and without the couple) before photographing the wedding day?
We scout locations and visit the church and venue. We stay in contact with all of our brides and follow their Pinterest pages also.
If you could shoot a wedding anywhere in the world, where would it be?
We don’t lust for places, we just want to be around amazing people and a great atmosphere – but if we had to pick… Italy, France, Greece or just somewhere with an awesome view of the stars at night.
What would you tell your younger self – knowing what you know now?
Nothing! We enjoyed the journey to where we are now and wouldn’t change a thing!
What are your dreams and aims for the future (with your photography?)
Our dream was to create this company and now we only aim to continue to do what we’ve been doing since we started. We’d love to one day have the opportunity to teach others our craft and we’d love to work towards lifting the standards of wedding photography and cinematography in our city and all over Australia (and the world).
