These days, most couples planning for their special day are conscious of budget on their wedding day. Be it on flowers, music or food, let’s face it – at the end of the day every dollar saved is a dollar earned.
I might be a bit biased here being in the industry myself, but for me, flowers are important on your wedding day. They transform what otherwise would be just a normal gathering and are what makes your day special and remembered for a long time after, both for you and your guests. Hence not surprisingly, flowers usually take a fair chunk of your cash for bridal party bouquets, buttonholes, hair accessories, venue decor, cake-toppers etc. But there is a way to get beautiful wedding flowers on a budget and here are my tips to help you do just that.
1. Opt for seasonal floral varieties.
Don’t fret – you can still get the colour and wedding theme as you wish. It’s just that the particular type of flower you want might have to be substituted. Choose flowers based on what’s available and in season. There are so many varieties that you may not even know exist. Ask your wedding florist to recommend flowers that are similar to the specific type of flowers you’re after.
2. Natural stemmed round bouquets are cheaper than tear-drop/shower bouquets.
This is simply due to the fact that trail bouquets are much more time consuming to put together because of the technical mechanisms involved.
3. Consider greeneries – you might be pleasantly surprised.
Foliage and greeneries are usually less costly than flowering blooms. Again speak to your wedding florist about recommendations and varieties available to suit your wedding theme. Contrary to many people’s preconceptions, foliage doesn’t just stop at ferns & bushy leaves! They do come in a big range as well from pretty dainty greens to more textured and bold variegated types.
4. Opt for lesser varieties of flowers and foliages.
I order my flowers in bulk from my suppliers. The bigger the order for a certain type, the more cost effective it will be. Besides, flowers en-masse is the current trend!
