Although the Winter months are not always thought of as the most popular time for weddings, more couples than ever are choosing a Winter wedding and it can be my favourite time of year for beauty. If you’re getting married in the cooler months, the bronzed dewy look may not be for you so I’ve put together some tips for a gorgeous winter bridal makeup.
Skin: Matte, natural and flushed is what I think of for a Winter bride. Pack away the bronzers and luminizers and reach for a natural toned, pink or peach blush which mimics the skin’s natural flush.
Eyes: Matte warm tones can be great in winter. I often use autumnal browns and brick colours for the winter face. Stay away from too much shiny or glittery shadow. Not only is it best used in the warmer months, but it often photographs as ‘sweaty’ on film.
Lashes: Use a wispy strip lash to help create volume. If eyes are your feature then why not go for a double lash for double the volume.
Lips: Steer clear of lips that are too glossy or frosted. Keep undertones cool with cool nudes. If your lip is the feature then instead of a warm/orange based red, choose cooler plums or burgundy. Matte lips are not only classic but stay on for longer.
Body: If you’re bronze all year round then a spray tan can still be great in the cooler months. Choose a formula with a green/blue undertone to avoid the orange look and go for one light coat rather than two.
Winter wedding tip: Lips and skin can be a lot dryer in the cooler months. Ensure you are hydrating and plumping the skin in the lead up to your wedding or go one step further and have a hydrating facial the week before your big day.
Work with your makeup artist to find the look that you love. The most important thing is that you’re comfortable and at the end of the day, the Bride is always the most beautiful woman in the room in any season.
Ms Gingham says: Just like you change the colours you wear in winter so should makeup reflect the season and surroundings. I totally agree Nico!
