Victoria and Alex

When Victoria and Alex chose Jervis Bay for their Australian beach wedding (captured by Anna Turner) they wanted to meld their Australian and British heritage. Marrying on the beach, every second was filled with laughter – just what they wanted! The simple touches are beautifully executed, playing back to the style of the couple.

Victoria tells their around the world story! “Our story is corny but true… We’ve known each other since we were 8!! We were best buddies at school when Alex (from Sydney) lived over in London with his family. We lost touch for almost 18 years but when I (Victoria) moved to Sydney for work, we met up again and the rest is history!”

Of their decision to marry in Jervis Bay, Victoria tells, “We wanted the wedding to be a true reflection of our time living in Australia, and no better place for that was the beach in Vincentia, Jervis Bay. We spent so many weekends there when we first got together it was the perfect spot. And to top it off, Alex’s mother lives there so could provide her amazing 1950’s beach house as a reception spot.”

The processional was to “Heartbeats, Jose Gonzalez plaid by a brilliant acoustic guitarist. ”

The entire day was filled with laughter, which is what Victoria adored about it, telling, “We laughed all the way through the weekend… when the page boys ran away during the ceremony, when Alex messed up his vows and when my dad inadvertently insulated every Australian in the room trying to be funny! We just laughed. Its an incredibly important time but we started off married life laughing, hopefully it will stay that way.”

“The whole day was a complete blur, all I remember is laughing my way through the whole thing. It was fantastic to see all our friends and family up the hill watching us say our vows and the ceremony finishing as the sun went down meant the photos were wonderful.”

Victoria wore a gown by Candy Anthony, noting, ” I LOVED my dress – that sounds very selfish but it was so much fun to wear. You’ll probably find me sitting around the house in it soon as it was just magical “. Her bridesmaids wore navy dresses from Vivien of Holloway.

“I did my own make-up and a friend did my hair. My very creative and talented family and I made all the flowers for the bridal party. My mother in law’s friend provided his car to give us a lift to the ceremony. We created most of the decorations ourselves… I put together the ceremony decorations.”

The reception was held in Alex’s mother’s backyard, Victoria explaining, “At the reception, Alex’s mum made centre pieces out of tomato tins and herbs and sewed table cloths. My aunt and mum sewed 200 metres of bunting! We all pitched in to decorate the garden with fairy lights and Alex’s boat topped it off as the perfect drinks bucket filled with ice!”

Dinner was kept simple but yummy with Wandering Wood Fire Pizza catering the reception.

“For the reception, the speeches were a particular highlight, everyone said such lovely things and taking a moment to look around and see everyone’s reactions – tears and laughter – was magical. I’m so glad I gave a speech! I was initially very skeptical about giving a speech but I’m glad Alex forced me to do it. It’s so rare to get an opportunity to publicly thank everyone who means so much to you.”
