Is black the new white? That’s one question Samantha Wynne had me pondering after she showed off dozens of dreamy white dresses, and one very unique black wedding gown at her cleverly named Unveiled bridal runway.
Held back in February, the show paid homage to the women of Western Australia as real Perth brides strutted their stuff through the historic Hackett Hall. Showing off the latest styles from Wynne’s Perth boutique, the models were a treat for the eyes as they sashayed past attendees in vintage-inspired silhouettes, delicate lace and tons of tulle.
I recently had the chance to check out some amazing behind the scenes images of the runway show, and chat to Samantha about the inspiration behind her collection.
The first thing I simply had to ask Samantha was how she sourced the lovely brides for the show. “When needing models for my parade, my first thoughts were the gorgeous models whom I have met over the years and the stunning real brides who had trusted me with their wedding dresses. It made for a perfect casting!”
Swathed in classic silhouettes and delicate lace, the models looked every inch the real deal as they showed off Wynne’s latest collection. Gliding down the runway in metres of silk and soft tulle, I couldn’t help but be captivated by the lush materials that adorned them.
So it was no surprise when Samantha informed me that her collection of luxurious fabrics inspired the designs. “In my current ready to wear range, fabrics play an integral part of the designs. I fell in love with my new laces and silks and found inspiration for my designs immediately. I’m a lover of lace and very feminine soft looks.”

However, it wasn’t just Samantha’s gowns that graced the bridal runway. The Unveiled show also featured gorgeous wedding dresses from Australian designers Henri Josef website, Wendy Makin and Mariana Hardwick, as well as frocks from international ateliers, Manuel Mota, Pronovias and Watters.
Yet out of all the frockery and finery, it was the jet black finale dress that grabbed my attention, so I had to ask Ms Wynne’s opinion on brides who dare to do a different hue.
“I love it when a bride wears black. It is such a statement. Brides who choose this path are very confident… Fiona who modeled the black dress at our event, was perfect for our gown! It had the WOW factor! I also love it when we are asked for Red, or Vintage Floral gowns… it’s refreshing.”

But experimenting with colour and texture isn’t the only thing that inspires Samantha Wynne. As a part of the bridal business for over 10 years, Samantha is also inspired by each Perth bride that walks through her boutique’s door. “I think my boutique is unique due to the personalised and friendly honest service. My brides aren’t just a sale; they become part of my journey. I enjoy each appointment and I love their feedback.”
“My inspiration for my designs and ideas comes from meeting with clients in my store. Brides to be know exactly what they are after. It is up to me to use my intuition and creativity to design that exact “look” each bride is dreaming of for her special day.”
Speaking of beautiful brides, Samantha Wynne left me with some tips for Polka Dot Brides on the big day.
“Stay true to yourself – Don’t waste time on worrying about what your guests are going to think about your dress, Your table centre pieces, Your theme, It is your day….you are celebrating a very important moment in your life with your one true love. Your journey together begins today as husband and wife.”
So to thine own self be true ladies, and if that means wearing black on your wedding day, then get to it I say!
