If there are three words not often used to describe men’s accessories it’s: bright colours and lace! But that’s exactly what the unique men’s accessory brand PINO hope to change with their range of “not boring” ties, pocket rounds and squares. Founded in 2011 by Crispin Argento, this technicolour label aims to put the fun back into formal wear with a line of colourful ties and accessories that dare to be different.

As Crispin says, “when we began we set out to take a forgotten, mundane accessory that has lost favor with most men and breathe new life into it. We did this by focusing on unique fabrics and including meticulous details.”

PINO’s raw silk bow ties in ‘saffron’ and ‘jade’

Named after Argento’s grandfather Crispino, the brand embraces an array of original fabrics. Their current range is a rainbow of raw silk creations, available in every colour imaginable – from the brightest orange I’ve ever seen, to a moody jade green. My personal favourite is their most unique tie, a shocking aquamarine silk with English Lace overlay. As for those meticulous details, each PINO self-tie features a vintage-inspired mother of pearl button-fastening for a bit of added flair.

Another thing that’s got me pining for PINO is their bespoke service. Not only will they whip up colourful bow ties and pocket squares for your entire grooms party, but they’ll also make matching ties for boys as well as headbands, hair bows and bouquet wraps. So you can have every little pop of colour matching perfectly on the day!

100% hand-made in Argento’s hometown of Portland, Oregon, PINO uses high quality and ethically sourced materials in each of their accessories. The current collection features fairly traded silk, which was hand-spun, woven and dyed in India. You can see how a PINO tie comes to be in this behind the scenes video:

Influenced by the class of menswear in the past, Founder and Creative Director, Crispin Argento hopes that PINO will help spark a return to dapper dressing. As he says, “I am inspired by the concept of bringing back the gentleman—and I believe it starts with clothing. If you look good, you feel good, and you do good.”

For those wanting to embrace their inner gentleman on the big day, Crispin has a few style tips for us:

1. Experiment with your style: “Style is something that can be learned. Sure, some people are naturals but it is really about learning how to work and play with patterns, colour and texture. As a general rule – try to work all three into each outfit. Experiment. Have fun.”

2. Pair don’t match: “If your tie is orange, use complimentary colours of a pattern with a similar orange in it. Play with colour and get a feel for what works! Do the same for texture and patterns. Pair. Pair. Pair.”

3. Practice Sprezzatura: “an Italian word meaning nonchalance. One you are comfortable mixing and pairing, you will know how to look sharp, and be comfortable without even thinking about it. We know you care, but don’t look like you do!”

So if you’re looking to get your Sprezzatura on, don’t worry, you don’t have to travel to Italy, (or Oregon), all accessories are available online at PINO’s website.
