After the ring… comes the engagement party planning.
Shannon and Maurice
When it came time for us to pick a theme, we decided to make it an ice skating engagement party followed by dinner at the Toronto Cricket Skating & Curling Club. The club itself is a great venue and is known for being the training ground of many generations of Canadian and World Champion figure skaters.
The result was a fun way to for wedding party members, family, and friends to get to know each other a bit better. For non-skaters they had hot apple cider in the heated observation area. The ice rental was quite reasonable, and overall renting ice in Toronto is an affordable venue option if you are just looking to do a skating party. The fun that can be had is pretty priceless.
On the bride’s side of the family, figure skating was the sport of choice, with me being a former singles skater, my brother being an ice dancer and my maid of honour also an ice dancer, so there were lots of fun tricks. Everyone really got into it trying lunges, and a few interpretive moves.
After dinner, we hosted, roasted and toasted in the Founder’s Room which is located just above the rink. We revealed our wedding party via a cute chalkboard sketch and announced the date and location of our wedding.

Ms Gingham says: That looks like buckets of fun!! Congratulations to Shannon and Maurice!
Shannon says: “I grew up in Etobicoke, Ontario and spent most of my youth at the rink as a competitive figure skater. After a career ending injury I attended the University of Western Ontario studying Media Information and Technoculture. While in University I worked as a event coordinator for Golf Tournaments and have a passion for bringing together great event experiences.”
