Everybody knows I am a sucker for a good floral arrangement and this week’s vendor of the week Pomp and Splendour is so amazingly talented at what she does that it’s hard not to fawn over every single photo! Pomp and Splendour, based out of Melbourne is all about inspired floral design. Using a love of nature and festive and playful eye, owner Petra takes blooms and turns them into some truly amazing arrangements. From rustic, to classic with a twist and everything in between! She’s definitely worth checking out if you’re marrying in Melbourne!

We asked Petra from Pomp and Splendour five questions in five minutes –

What is your favourite after five drink?

I’m a bit of a red wine fan. I’m really enjoying heavier spicy Shiraz at the moment with this colder weather. Anything from Heathcote.

Your favourite weekend getaway?

I just spent a beautiful long weekend in Bright. We drove up and over Mount Beauty and spent a day horse riding. It was actually minus two degrees, I couldn’t feel my fingers or toes, but the scenery and the experience was amazing.

Favourite restaurant?

I’m totally spoiled for choice here in Melbourne! I think my new favourite is Rumi in Brunswick East. I think it was also my favourite once or twice before….

What can we find you eating for breakfast on a Sunday morning?

Sunday morning during wedding season is likely to be a soy latte and a pain au chocolat…consumed on the run! Lazy Sunday morning breakfasts are more likely to be a vegetarian feast complete with eggs, mushrooms, spicy beans, and some fresh greens from the garden. Oh and a coffee of course!

Your favourite wedding story?

I can think of so many sweet wedding stories but the one that stands out in my mind is both sweet and funny. Years ago when I was a florist in Byron Bay (awful, right?) a haphazard series of events turned hilarious. A good friend of mine was one of the bridesmaids and she couldn’t wait to tell me this story the next day.

I had delivered all of the buttonholes to the guys at their beach front accommodation. The father of the groom was there to greet me and told me that the boys had all gone surfing. I instructed him on how the boys should wear them and then told him he can keep them in the fridge until they are needed. Of course the boys got dressed and forgot about the buttonholes. They reached the Hinterland ceremony destination when the father of the groom remembered!

Most of the guests were arriving and were told about the hiccup. Someone rang the bride and the girls and delayed them in order to give the boys time to have their buttonholes delivered! The father of the groom insisted that he go and pick them up, he was apparently mortified that he had slipped up on his only real task. He returned with enough time to pin on each of the boys buttonholes including his own. Phew!

During the ceremony when the bride and groom were saying their vows, the bride reached across and unpinned the groom’s buttonhole, rotated it 180 degress and pinned it back on. All of the boys were wearing their buttonholes upside down! Everyone, including the bride and groom broke out in to a fit of giggles! A very sweet story.
