Fancy tiered mudcakes with hard fondant not your thing? If humble, homemade (not to mention super tasty!) cakes are more your style, read on!
You’ll need:
- Patterned fabric scraps
- Bamboo skewers
- Bakers twine
- Aquadhere
- Scissors
1. Cut small triangles out of the fabric. Fold over the top and trim corners so they’re flush with the front of the flag.
2. Dab some glue inside the flaps.
3. Fold triangle over bakers twine and press flat; wipe off excess glue. Repeat with remaining triangles. Allow to dry.
4. Tie one end of the bakers twine to the blunt end of one of the skewers. Tie a second piece of twine around the first one. Repeat on other side with second skewer.
5. Trim off excess twine.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend making your own wedding cake, so hand over your topper to your baker.
For an engagement party or kitchen tea, however, you may like to try your hand at making the cake yourself. I made one of my fave cakes – an absolutely delish Hummingbird Cake. You can find the recipe here.
