Kobi & Brad
Boyd Baker House is fast becoming one of my favourite Australian wedding destinations. Surrounded by native Australian bush, this mid century home provides such an incredible backdrop for celebrations.
Kobi tells their story. “We were introduced by friends after many hints & suggestions that we would hit it off.”
Xiss Photography has captured such beautiful, relaxed photographs of Kobi and Brad’s celebration. I love the relaxed laughter and fun of the photographs.
Kobi and Brad held their ceremony and reception at Boyd Baker House. Kobi explains “We chose Boyd Baker House as it was different to any other venue we had seen. Its uniquely Australian & allowed us to have the relaxed, fun wedding we hoped for.
The home is filled with beautiful Eames furniture & artwork. The day before the wedding our bridal party had a working bee & arranged all the furniture ourselves. As it was summer we were able to set up an outdoor lounge room under lanterns. The contrast of the gorgeous furniture set in the middle of the gum trees made guests feel so comfortable & the photos look amazing.”
Kobi wore a gown designed by Annette Of Melbourne, she borrowed her jewels from her mother.
Kobi recalls, “The night before the wedding my mum, sister & bridesmaids helped make personalised straws that were given to guests in bottles of mineral water at the ceremony. Lucky we did as it was a very hot afternoon.”
Kobi walked down the aisle to ‘Inevitable’ by An Berlin. Kobi loved “Having my dad walk me down the aisle, he was more nervous than me & I had to talk him through it. As the oldest daughter in my family it was very emotional & lovely to see my dad so proud.”
Kobi’s favourite memory was, “Seeing Brad as I walked up the aisle. He is usually so composed & to see him so emotional & happy was beautiful. We also got to spend some time alone after the ceremony which was really nice. We got a chance to chat & reflect on the ceremony & have our first conversation as husband & wife. Some of my favourite photos are of us having these chats.” The couple chose Maree Livy as their celebrant.
Kobi and Brad were determined that the wedding reflect their way of life. Kobi explains “I loved the fact that our wedding was relaxed. We decided to forgo a few wedding traditions to make the night more relaxing for us & in turn our guests. The bush setting & beautiful balmy night & outdoor setting helped achieve this feel also.”
Kobi remembers “After the ceremony & a few photos, we organised to have some time to catch up with our bridal party. Brad had organised bottles of Bollinger & the caterer organised a selection of food from the beautiful grazing table. It was so relaxing to sit down & chat with our closest friends before we rejoined the rest of the guests back at the reception.” Kobi’s bridesmaids wore gowns from ME too by Matthew Eager.
Of their photographer, Kobi says “James was amazing! Both Brad & I were quite camera shy but James made us feel so comfortable & we forgot he was even taking photos. It was important for us to have lots of candid shots of our guests, family & friends & James captured the night beautifully. By the end of the night he was a part of the family!”
For favors, Kobi handmade an old family recipe. She recalls “I made raspberry jam favours for our guests, using Brad’s grandmother’s recipe.”
Food & wine also topped the “important!” list. Kobi explains “Ed Dixon Food Design provided an exceptional service. Our guests were able to feast on a grazing table including rare roast beef, cheeses, salmon etc. Before a selection of hot & cold canapés including momofuku buns, foie gras macaroons, pork hot pots & later in the night fish & chips.”
Along with the savoury food, was a selection of cupcakes by Cupcake Queens . Kobi explains “The food, wine & cocktails were something that Brad & I put a lot of thought into. We absolutely love food & cooking for our friends & family so we wanted our wedding to reflect who we are & what we love.”
One of the best parts of the newlywed’s evening? The speeches of course! Kobi remarks “The speeches were the highlight for Brad & I. Both of our fathers gave lovely heart warming speeches followed by our Best Man & Brads brother Dene whose speech has our guests crying with laughter. I was especially moved by my sister & Maid Of Honour Deonne, at the last minute she decided she would like to make a speech. There was not a dry eye left as her words were so full of love & support for Brad & I.”
Thistle Flower Merchant ( 0422 041 437 ) designed the floral arrangements for the wedding. Kobi recalls “Prue from Thistle Flower Merchant spent hours arranging hundreds of candles, jars, flowers & hand making tissue paper pom poms. As well as our bouquets which were beautiful, I gave her a brief of the kind of look I was going for then gave her complete control to decide on the types of flowers & how she would arrange them. She was a superstar! The arrangement in the huge fireplace is one of my favourite images from the whole night.”
In keeping with the relaxed style of the wedding, guests danced as they pleased! Says Kobi “We decided not to do a first dance so we could keep formalities to a minimum. The focus of our wedding was food, wine & fun!”
Congratulations on your marriage Kobi and Brad! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us! Thank you also to Xiss Photography for sharing today’s images.
Love those lanterns! Where did the bride buy/hire them from? Lovely!
Beautiful pics, beautiful bride and how stunning did the bridesmaids look in classic black!
Simplicity seemed to be the key and didn’t they just do it perfectly. Love the black bridesmaids dresses as well!
hi, great photos. We are strongly considering having our wedding at boyd baker this summer, but as all mothers do, my mum asked an annoyingly practical question about flies and mosquitos. Did you notice an unusually large number of either out there on the day/night?
Love the wedding venue. Very unique!
