Yvette and Roddy

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside! When I last visited Sorrento, where today’s wedding was held, it was the most magical place and I think it held the same meaning for our newlyweds Yvette and Roddy who married beside the beach on Victoria’s coastline. It’s a perfect Australian beach wedding!

Yvette and Roddy met through church. “Rodrigo and I met about 7 years ago at our home church, Bridge Church in Richmond. We socialised with the same group of friends for years. One of our close friends was convinced Roddy and I would make a good couple and after pestering both of us for months, he eventually made a deal with Roddy that if Roddy scored a goal in his next soccer game for Melbourne Victory, he had to ask me on a date…  It must have been destiny, because Roddy did score a goal and the rest is history!”

Today’s photographer- another newbie to Polka Dot Bride, is Sayher Heffernan who has captured a certain magic with these wedding photos- a beautiful peace and softness flows into every image!

Yvette wore a gown from Anna Campbell with Mimco earrings and selection of pearl and crustal bracelets. She carried a bouquet of white roses and carnations by Denise Joiner.

Of her beach inspired wedding gown, Yvette says “After a traumatic search for a unique wedding dress, I found Anna Campbell. Anna is a Melbourne designer with her own boutique in Brunswick. She has a range of wedding dresses, gowns and cocktail dresses in her collection. Her pieces are unique, feminine, and have a beautiful vintage feel about them. Anna Campbell custom made my wedding dress and the bridesmaids dresses. She has a lovely nature and is extremely flexible and patient with fussy customers! (Me).”

Both families rented houses in Sorrento for the lead up to the wedding- having their guests close by made the wedding “so much more fun” for Yvette and Roddy.

Yvette used Sue Marshall to style her wedding day hair and makeup. “Sue was so pleasant and calm during the bridal preparations on the morning of the wedding. She is beautiful to look at and work with!”

Yvette arrived to the ceremony (held at the The Baths Sorrento) by seaplane. She walked down the aisle to an old Christian gospel song. ” I arrived at the ceremony by Sea Plane. It was so much fun and so exciting to board the plane and surprise our guests with a unique arrival.  This meant that my dad could walk me down the pier, using it as our ‘aisle’.”

Yvette and Roddy’s family and friends pitched in and helped with the wedding details. Rodrigo has amazing calligraphy skills and wrote all the placecards, the couple used wedding invitation software from Officeworks to create their stationery and printed their invitations on handmade paper Yvette’s father bought in India. Their families were even involved in decorating the ceremony Yvette says “My incredibly talented Uncle and cousin built a structure on the beach for us to marry under. They constructed it on the morning of the wedding and used all natural materials including palm branches and twisted sticks/branches. It looked amazing!”

The couple were married by Pastor Phillip Hills  “He was our church pastor at Bridge Church. He married my parents and he also dedicated me as a baby, so it was really special to have him marry us.”

The groomsmen wore cream three piece suits from Spurling Formal Wear with shoes from Batsanis.

After their ceremony and photos, Yvette and Roddy met their guests at The Baths in Sorrento “We both really wanted to have a beach wedding and viewed a range of beachfront venues around Melbourne.  We decided on the The Baths restaurant in Sorrento because of the beautiful beach setting, delicious menu, good value for money and great service.”

Roddy hand wrote each placecard. The couple chose a traditional Chilean wedding cake called a ‘ Torta De Mil Ojas’’ made by Marciano’s Cakes.

Yvette and Roddy danced their first dance together to “At Last” by Etta James. Yvette says “The best part of the day was not the Wedding, but the marriage! Becoming ‘one’ with my best friend was a really special experience. I love being married!”

Congratulations Yvette and Roddy! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us! A big thank you also to Sayher Heffernan who shared today’s gorgeous images!
