To me a honeymoon is a relaxing holiday, a love-bubble of happiness where you refer to your other half as ‘Husband’ for the first time and hotel staff call you Mrs.
When we discovered Taveuni Island Resort in Fiji, awarded one of the Top 100 Places To Visit Before You Die, we knew it was perfect for our first holiday as husband and wife.
Taveuni Island Resort is a 5 star boutique-style tropical haven on the isle of Taveuni, a 90 minute flight from Nadi.
With only eight bures, the resort is exclusive and luxurious whilst remaining true to its stunning natural environment and that is really what makes it a wonderful holiday experience.
From the moment we arrived we were welcomed like family and treated like royalty. Spoilt with three delicious three course meals a day all home-made on the premises.
The bure we stayed in – the Veidomoni, was huge; an enormous bedroom, 2 bathrooms and a lounge room, all of which opened onto an expansive patio with a view that was truly out of this world. The uninterrupted view of the ocean was definitely best enjoyed under the outdoor shower which was shielded from the rest of the resort by lush tropical vegetation. Truly blissful.
Relaxing is mandatory and we enjoyed several massages at the on-site spa during our stay. Evenings were spent listening to traditional Fijian music (their voices are incredible) and whilst we had a hard time dragging ourselves away from the sparkling wet-edge pool we still managed to take in some of the stunning surroundings.
The three waterfalls at Bouma National Park, led by your own personal guide, are definitely worth the hike. The tropical beauty of the park is matched only by the spectacular view. I highly recommend a swim in the natural pools to cool off- after you’ve enjoyed your delicious packed lunch of course.
The natural water slide is stunning and an attraction for the local boys. My husband endeared himself to the locals with a series of daring slides along the rocks while I played photographer… I don’t think my Zimmerman bikini could have withstood the ride.
The International Date Line (stand afoot today and yesterday), coastal walks and local shops were all a wonderful experience made all the better for the lovely tour-guides who felt more like good friends by the end.
The area is known for its world class diving and my husband spent a morning exploring The White Wall and Rainbow Reef while I snorkeled lazily around one of the many islets.
Kayaking in the crystal clear water is blissful and with the beach at the bottom of the property no planning is required.
We were farewelled from the resort just as we were welcomed, with traditional Fijian singing and friendly smiles and I can definitely see us holidaying there again.
