After meeting on the dating app designed to be deleted, Ching and Iwen’s love story led them from a romantic proposal in Korea to a warm, intimate celebration at Three Blue Ducks. Captured beautifully by Pepper June, this was a day filled with personal touches, from the tea ceremony in a red qipao to their dog Miso’s cameo and stationery details designed specifically for their guests.
Like many other modern couples, Ching and Iwen met on a dating app! More specifically, they met on the dating app designed to be deleted – Hinge.
For most people, Nami Island in Korea is famous for the filming location of romantic K-dramas like “Winter Sonata” and, more recently, for “A Time Called You”. But for Iwen and Ching, it’s famous for being the location where Iwen proposed! “After he’d asked the question, I saw a lady hiding behind a tree, snapping away on her camera. Iwen had hired a photographer to capture everything!”
Iwen chose a charming dark navy suit for their cosy wedding, perfectly matching the clean yet sophisticated vibes of the day. “We were going for classic rustic with pastel colours. We matched the ties with the bridal parties, and the flowers on the day also matched the bouquet and flower lapels.”
For her first look of the day, Ching wore a classic red qipao for the tea ceremony. “A Chinese tea ceremony, or “Ging Chaa” (敬茶), is a traditional wedding ritual where the bride and groom show respect and gratitude to their elders (parents, grandparents, and other family members) by serving them tea, symbolising the union of our families,” she explained.
After the tea ceremony, Ching changed into her slinky Grace Loves Lace gown, which paired perfectly with her artful hair and makeup, done by Maggie Yang. “I always wanted to wear something simple and slim-fitting. I enjoyed my fitting experience at Grace Loves Lace and found the dress that matches my expectations. It didn’t take me long to decide on my dress.”
Within Iwen’s wedding party, he had his best friend and brother. Both wore matching navy suits but with deep red ties to match the bridesmaids. Ching herself had her two close friends wearing beautiful sangria red dresses from Shona Joy.
While she didn’t have a specific vision in mind for style and florals, Ching knew she wanted a colour palette full of blush, peach and warm/neutral tones – and from the moment she spoke with Upside Down Events, she knew they were the vendor for the job! “We were introduced to Upside Down Events by our DJ. When we met with Lilac at Upside Down Events, we gave her a brief overview of our vision and let her run wild with her creativity, then pitched back to us. She hit the mark with colour palette, style and all within budget. We were delighted to proceed with her. Our approach is to trust the experts who have all the experience and ideas.”
The team from Pepper June took care of all things photography for Ching and Iwen, forever immortalising their charming day. “They made the whole experience easy and made us feel so comfortable during the shoot,” she shared.
Three Blue Ducks in Rosebery, New South Wales, was their venue for the day, with their ceremony taking place upstairs in the stunning Rosella Room. “Three Blue Ducks was one of the many venues we looked at, and we decided to get married there because it allowed us to have a ceremony and reception in one spot close together in time, as well, so our guests wouldn’t have to wait around for a few hours. We also loved the warehouse/rustic vibe.”
Out of all the photos in this beautiful gallery, it wasn’t easy for Ching and Iwen to pick their absolute favourite – but when it comes to their adorable dog Miso, this one has to be their top pick.
Starting the ceremony, Ching walked down the aisle with her dad on one hand and her beautiful bouquet in the other.
Both Iwen and Ching wanted a cosy, intimate style ceremony – and they couldn’t have picked a better celebrant to lead it than Robyn Pattison! “Robyn was authentic, funny and told our story perfectly.”
Not only did Upside Down Events take care of all things styling and florals, but they also designed Ching’s favourite element of the day – their stationery! “I loved the stationery detail. It addressed our guests’ first names along with the menu for the night.”
The five things that made this cosy wedding all the more charming were:
“1. Our guests
2. Our excellent vendors
3. My dog Miso being there
4. The nice food
5. Looking pretty.”
A piece of advice that Iwen and Ching want to leave for future couples planning their own charming weddings is this: “Don’t stress about the wedding, the day goes by so quickly. Just relax and enjoy the day.”
Spirits remained high and the vibes were fun throughout the reception, thanks to their MC, Sarah Lin, and DJ, DJ Dumplings!
For their first dance, Ching and Iwen danced to “I Knew I Loved You” by Savage Garden, finishing out the night with the perfect blend of throwback nostalgia and romance.
Congrats Ching and Iwen on this charming yet cosy wedding! And thanks to Pepper June for sharing these beautiful images with us.
