In a celebration that beautifully merged Sri Lankan and Australian traditions, Tarini and Harley crafted their dream summer wedding in Melbourne. From their lucky meeting at a pub to their romantic proposal in the scenic town of Bright, their journey was filled with love and adventure.

Acacia Ridge in the Yarra Valley set the stage for their bright summer wedding, where family, friends, and heartfelt details created an unforgettable experience. Embracing bright florals, personalised touches, and meaningful cultural elements, their wedding perfectly embodied their love and heritage. And with Mardy from All My Wednesdays on their team, the day was perfectly immortalised.

After meeting at a pub after their medical school exams, Tarini and Harley knew they’d finally met their forever match. It was when they went for a weekend away to Bright that Harley popped that all-mighty question. “Harley brought an MAHA Providore kit for our small cabin overlooking Mount Beauty. The only issue was that most of the meal required an oven and when we got there he realised the cabin didn’t have one! We still enjoyed a delicious dinner (of hummus and bread), and he proposed that night!”

Harley wore a custom suit from P.Johnson that he had fitted at the Melbourne boutique. “He really loved that experience!”

Tarini wore this white and gold custom-made bridal piece from India. She ran into a few problems with the fit and had to have it shipped back. “It only arrived a few days before the actual wedding,” she explained. “It needed some further alteration again, which, luckily, my mother-in-law and aunties were all able to work on overnight to have it ready to wear. It was easily the most stressful part of the wedding, but I think the look paid off.” And we’d have to agree – she looked incredible in this look!

Her wedding party picked out their own dresses – Tarini wanted everyone to be comfortable and love what they’d picked; it just had to fit within the warm, autumnal tones of the wedding. “It was really nice to see them all look like themselves and feel comfortable on the day.”

All of these bright florals for the day were made by Tarini’s florist mother-in-law! “She is incredibly talented and also has a lot of experience in style and design work. She worked incredibly hard on the flowers, and they were exactly what I had envisioned. They pulled our whole theme and style together.”

They chose Acacia Ridge in the bright Yarra Valley as the venue for their summer wedding. “This was after a friend had gotten married there previously and recommended it to us. The staff on the day were exceptional, and the venue was stunning. The day all went off really smoothly, as the coordination on the day was great!”

Tarini’s parents walked her down the aisle as their live band Champagne Electric played “Here’s The Thing” by Courtney Barnett.

Their ceremony was at Acacia Ridge, overlooking the beautiful summer vineyards. Their celebrant, Megan Thompson, led the ceremony for the couple. “We got so many compliments on how authentic and special the ceremony was,” Tarini shared. “The music by Champagne Electric made our dream ceremony moments come true and they covered our favourite sounds.”

Tarini met Mardy Bridges from All My Wednesdays, shooting at one of her friend’s weddings. “I just loved how well she fit in with the crowd and how amazing her candid photos were. I was also very concerned to find a photographer who could photograph a mix of skin tones and not make anyone appear dull / washed out in photos. She really alleviated all my stress about this, and the photos came out amazing. She was also exceptional to work with on the day and in the lead up to – always so positive and relaxed.”

At the reception, the couple included a table with photos from their parents and grandparents’ weddings to celebrate the love that runs in their families. They also included individual name cards with a little line about what each person means to them to add an extra personal touch to the day. “We wanted to make everyone know they were there because they were so truly special to us. We had Sri Lankan love cake on the tables for each guest, which was a small way of incorporating what we love about Sri Lankan tradition into the day.”

Running the reception and keeping the good vibes going, was Tarini’s brother as the MC of the night. “He did such a good job at making the event light-hearted and hilarious. We also loved our dance floor with a good mix of alternative and 80s-90s tracks to get everyone on the dance floor for several hours.”

One of Tarini’s favourite moments of the day was this: “Looking out at dinner and seeing the faces of all our most loved people together. It’s truly a surreal and magical experience. Harley’s sister and mum, who are event stylists, did the styling and flowers. The style and set up were incredible and elevated the beautiful atmosphere on the day.”

These sunset photos with Mardy were some of the only times Tarini and Harley had to take in the day and really bask in the joy of it all together.

The top five things that made their summer wedding so special were:

“1. Choosing songs and music that was special to our relationship,

2. Having our family as involved in the day as possible,

3. Having a pre-wedding drink the day before for people to meet and mingle,

4. Prioritising good food as that’s very important to us,

5. Having some alone time, the two of us take it all in on the day.

Their first dance was to “It’s Too Late To Turn Back Now” by Cornelius Bros & Sister Rose.

Congratulations, Tarini and Harley—you created the perfect summer wedding, full of bright florals, personal touches, and love! Thanks to All My Wednesdays for capturing and sharing this beautiful day with us.
