As the promise of new beginnings wafted in the spring air of South Australia, Foti and Phoebe each took a moment to ready themselves for the day ahead. In a spectacular Chinese-Greek fusion, these newlyweds celebrated their bright wedding with an outdoor ceremony.
Joining them at this beautiful winery wedding was Laura from Mirrorball Hearts Club. Her photography perfectly captured the airy, laughter-filled atmosphere of the day.
After Phoebe met Foti during a university placement, the two were inseparable. When it was time to plan their engagement, Foti contacted the tour guide for their day trip to brief him on the plan. “We took a trip to Darwin, and I had organised a day trip to Jim Jim Falls within the Kakadu National Park. After hiking up to the Falls in 40-degree heat, we rested on a rock, and I gave Chizo the eyes to get ready – you can imagine what happened next!”
Their venue of choice was the bright Anderson Hill Winery in South Australia. Located within the Adelaide Hills, it’s a peaceful escape far away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. “The staff were very accommodating and also joined in the celebrations during the night!”
The reception space was decorated with the bright flowers found at the ceremony. All the table names corresponded with their combined home towns, as a nice nod to where they came from.
Foti and his wedding party wore navy suits from Daniel Hecher, along with some RM Williams boots. The groomsmen wore patterned ties, contrasting Foti’s red tie.
Phoebe’s bridesmaids were unfortunately stuck interstate because of covid, so Foti’s twin cousins stepped in to support her. They both wore stunning neutral pink gowns with sequenced bodices and long sleeves.
For the ceremony, Phoebe wore a beautiful white-tiered wedding gown with a strapless sweetheart neckline and a short train. To accompany her down the aisle, Foti’s dad walked on her arm while “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” by Elvis played.
The ceremony was led by their celebrant, Bob McGilchrist, who guided the couple through their vows and Bible readings. “The feeling was something you can’t explain, nervousness mixed with joy, love, happiness, and so many more feelings,” Foti described.
After the ceremony, Phoebe did a bouquet toss before the wedding party moved to take their portraits with their photographer, Mirrorball Heart Club. “Laura was awesome! We met a few times prior to our wedding, and she went through everything with us. She has a great eye for her work – very creative, smiley and loving person.”
Both Foti and Phoebe have family interstate and internationally that, unfortunately, couldn’t travel for the wedding. Thankfully, they had a game plan to ensure everyone got to experience their union. “The whole wedding was live-streamed so our families in China and Greece could share the moment with us.”
As they returned for the reception and had their first dance, Phoebe snuck off just before the cake cutting. “Phoebe surprised me with her traditional Chinese dress! The star of the day was her traditional wedding dress, which her mum sent to her from China.”
Speeches and dinner continued before the Greek band picked up pace and invited guests to hop onto the dance floor. “I believe the band gave us the best atmosphere possible to enjoy and dance. It was all smiles, and everyone joined in, amazing. One of my favourite memories was Greek dancing with my new wife, along with three generations of my family dancing with us.”
Congratulations Foti and Phoebe on your beautiful bright wedding! And thanks to Laura from Mirrorball Heart Club for capturing the amazing energy of the day.
