We asked Cara of Jamie + Cara – Brisbane City Celebrants five questions in five minutes:

Weddings are the best to work on because…. For me being a Wedding Celebrant is the most rewarding job in the world! There is such a mix of emotions for couples on their wedding day, so guiding them from the arrival nerves to witnessing their euphoric excitement and sheer happiness, is a true privilege.
I always feel so lucky that I’ve ended up working in the wedding industry. When people ask what industry I work in, I often tell them I work in ‘The Love Industry’ what a great place to be!

There’s no question I have a thing for the Love Industry with our other off shoot businesses:

What is something people would be surprised to know about your job or something that challenges you about your job?

2022 was the biggest year of weddings to date in Australia (source: thousands of Australian wedding vendors who’s love cups are overflowing – but I’d put money on ABS confirming this once the official stats come out.)

This resulted in waaaaay more couples than anticipated, that had been waiting for covid restrictions, snap lock downs and border closures to be well and truly over. Wedding confidence was back – big time!

While the high volume of weddings in 2022 was unexpected, it was so incredible seeing the wedding industry bounce back after 2 challenging years.

What is it about the creative process that you most enjoy?

As a Celebrant it’s so much fun getting to know couples, hearing their stories together and delivering ceremonies in the tone that reflects and complements them and their relationship with each other.

What are you hilariously bad at?

Saying no to a glass of bubbles! haha! It’s the drink of celebrations so how could this Celebrant possibly decline?

When you were small what did you dream of being and where have those dreams taken you?

An Olympic Gymnast! Hmm, clearly that one didn’t work out haha! But I did go on to become a Group Fitness Instructor at gyms, which inadvertently got me ready and confident for public speaking as a Celebrant.
I still love to look after my fitness with runs along the Brisbane River and I enjoy attending yoga classes nowadays instead of teaching.
