There was wondering during lockdown, that when one is locked away from family and friends, from going out and about to find inspiration, what happens to creativity? Well, one such result of months spent away from it all, is the birth of the brand new collection from Melbourne designer Anna Campbell, entitled “Shimmer Chapter Two”.
Now, we’ve long loved Anna’s sparkly, dreamy designs. There is a sense of freedom in her creations, that are not held back. Nothing stuffy, nothing reserved, just playful energy, and this is part of what makes the new collection such a delight.
“Shimmer Chapter Two” features nine beautiful gowns (all handmade in Melbourne by the way) and each was inspired by the new beginnings Anna felt when weddings once again became legal, and celebrations began in earnest. Anna shared “The Pandemic was heartbreaking for our industry, our brides, and our small team of dedicated staff. Suddenly we weren’t allowed in the workroom together or at all, and our boutique doors where we connect and are inspired by our brides were forced shut.
I greatly missed hearing the hum of machines, and the chatter of our team cutting and creating the gowns as I designed in our studio. Working closely with our brides and seeing them shimmer as we design and create their gowns has always been my greatest source of inspiration, and I craved this connection once more. I wanted to create a collection that shimmered and sparkled unapologetically.”
Meet “Lila”, a gown of stunning silk satin that glows in the light, a cowl neckline, moving to a sweet bow back – modern yet a little whimsical. You will also adore the hand-beaded textured tulle gown of “Tahlia Empress”, which beautifully marries a simple silhouette with layers upon layers of detail. And our third pick? The “Autumn” Topper – yes this team has plenty of skirts and toppers designed to mix and match, and Autumn, slightly cropped with beautiful Milano beading is a statement to be sure.
