The stuff of memories are made via stories – stories of the wedding day that are told via images and the memories these bring back. Leo of Leo Farrell Photography is a story teller using the light, to record details big and small to tell the narrative of your day. His skilful use of light to evoke the mood of any given moment, not only brings back the memories, but is an elegant way of injecting magic into the images.
Leo’s love of taking photographs shines through – each image is a story in itself and when looking at them I find myself wondering about the couple, what they were thinking and how they were feeling. That curiosity about that moment, is always appealing and elegant in its simple ability to draw the viewer into a world of imagination.
We asked Leo of Leo Farrell Photography five questions in five minutes:
Weddings are the best to work on because….
Weddings are great to work on because they are such life-giving events. Even as an impartial observer, they fill me with joy and happiness to witness. To be asked to capture them is a real privilege.
What is something people would be surprised to know about your job or something that challenges you about your job?
What challenges me about my job is the large amount of time spent at my desk.
What is it about the creative process that you most enjoy?
The creative process I enjoy the most is making the most of the situation at hand. Constantly seeking out the best light on the day to capture the couple in. Trying to create images that have mood (through lighting) and context (with framing).
What are you hilariously bad at?
I’m hilariously bad at making espresso martinis!
When you were small what did you dream of being and where have those dreams taken you?
When I was a teenager I dreamt of being a photographer. My first job was capturing aerial photos (on film) of rural properties around Australia from a small airplane with the door off. Literally a dream job!
