Wedding stylist and floral designer Evelyn of HeartLed Wedding Co. is as much about the fun of all the colours as us, so when this colourful pastel editorial she dreamt up landed? We knew we’d be the perfect match.
With a modern warehouse backdrop (Brisbane’s own Yatoma Studio), Evelyn pulled together an epic dream team to create a look that was different to the modern and sleek styling that warehouse spaces so usually adopt. Explaining “I wanted to juxtapose a whimsical, pastel, wildflower aesthetic with the more urban, raw interior of the venue. I wanted to take a colour palette and styling that would be right at home in a beautiful rolling field somewhere, and make it modern enough to work for an indoor, city wedding.”
With Aisling Bourke Photography behind the camera, Evelyn created lush floral arrangements – acting as a backdrop. Dahlias and roses in pastel hues of peaches and pinks, lilacs and creams really honoured that freshly picked wildflower vibe. And the best bit? Every floral arrangement was designed using foam-free techniques.
The table, set for a feast, was set with peachy tones thanks to pieces from House Of Harvey. Modern vessels from Oh Flora and colourful candles by Flort Designs and paper pieces from byChloeJoy adding a layered look that was not just about colour, but about the pattern. and about texture. “Because this shoot was so colourful, I also wanted to incorporate patterns and texture, but in subtle ways to not compete” explains Evelyn. “The linen fabric of the bride’s dress, the striped table linens, the polka dot pattern on the veil, the vertical ridging on the bud vases.”
Harriet and her beloved Matt (now newly engaged!) were the stars of the show. Harriet wore a beautiful linen Dissh dress, paired with a polka dot (!!!) veil from Bessette Bridal and headpiece designed by The Little Pack of Five, while Matt, completely in keeping with the pastel mood, wore a pale pink suit from Politix. Harriet’s hair and makeup, styled by Rachelle Barrett echoed the whimsy of the decor of the day, styling Harriet’s hair into loose waves, and using subtle rosy tones in her eye makeup.
And pop the confetti (eco-friendly used in this shoot, from The Whole Bride)! We adore colour because it speaks of joy, of celebration, and it turns out, that mood is apt for this editorial too. Evelyn explains “After the challenges the wedding industry and marrying couples have faced over the last few years of the pandemic, we are loving a burst of optimism, celebration and colour in weddings! Although ivory and blush will always have their place in our hearts, we love the unique sense of joy and celebration colour brings to an event!”
