Happy Monday Dotties! Spring is just around the corner, so let’s make the most of the winter time we have left – splash in puddles, wear those scarves and coats, and run inside after time in the freezing wind to drink a mug of hot cocoa. It’s the simple things….
Sit down and take a look at our Polka Dot Directory to get and marvel at the talent we have just waiting for you to explore. How about these fabulous vendors – from Photography to Cakes, we have Catering and Cinematography – we even have Venues and Wedding Gown Services.

When you see the world through an experienced photographer’s eyes, you start to see the more subtle things like the way the light shines, the colours of the surroundings and the details of a bouquet. Kathy of K3 Photography is a whiz at capturing the beauty of the wedding day – and not only that, the feelings of the day. Don’t you think that’s important – the feelings of the day are such a part of the memories that should be there whenever you look at your photos. Moments in time captured with her keen observations of our human-ness – that perhaps you didn’t even know Kathy was photographing – and that’s what’s so precious about them, because there are not many times in life that everyone that you hold dear to you will be in the one place – celebrating you! Telling your story and capturing memories – now that’s magic!
We asked Kathy of K3 Photography five questions in five minutes:
Weddings are the best to work on because….
Anything and everything can happen. From one celebration to the next, I’m taking photos of exquisite luxury gowns, flowers and cakes on one day and then I’m knee deep in water capturing water drenched raw magical love the next.
What is something people would be surprised to know about your job or something that challenges you about your job?
A camera doesn’t make a great picture anymore than a typewriter wrote a great novel. It certainly helps but there is so much more to capturing a great photo – years of observing and appreciating human expressions, movement, architecture, landscapes, colour, decisive moments, I’m forever going through life mentally capturing pictures all the time.
What is it about the creative process that you most enjoy?
All of it really – photographing, editing, sharing but most of all the constant learning and crafting of my skills both with the camera and with life generally. Self-confidence is a super power. Once you start to believe in yourself, magic starts to happen.
What are you hilariously bad at?
Maintaining plants which is all the rage the moment and I’m very jealous. My back yard is a big mass of greenery full of mostly hardy plants that don’t need any love or attention and my nan’s delicate rose bushes which continue to flower but I epically fail at growing herbs and vegetables and keeping indoor plants. If only I could remember to water them 🙂
When you were small what did you dream of being and where have those dreams taken you?
I day dreamed a lot as a kid and always wanted to do something creative. I started dancing as a child and that took me all the way to teaching and dancing professionally as an adult. I always had a camera with me to capture all those crazy happy moments so once I retired from dance, photography became my main focus and will probably sustain me forever in some way or form.
