Let it be known that I have pretty much stolen this cocktail from Mr Polka, because it is this, that he makes me every time I come down with a winter bug. But it is also one of my very favourite hot cocktails.
The Hot Toddy is very much an old favourite – it has all the healing properties a sore throat or cold needs, but because it’s hot, it also work beautifully as a winter cocktail to warm the cockles of your heart, and is just the tipple to serve to arriving guests for your winter wedding.
Now let’s talk whiskey; some people believe you should use basic alcohols when making cocktails – I am not that person. Give me something delicious and full of flavour, because it takes that cocktail to the next level. Today, we were lucky enough to be sent Westward American single malt pinot noir cask whiskey.
This beauty smells like delicious deep caramel and it’s really bold in flavour – so it works well when combined with honey and lemon. It tastes of tropical fruits, with a hit of bitter chocolate. All the good stuff and so worth of drinking all year round.
Now let it be said, that this hot toddy recipe has a caveat – this is our favourite version. But if you like your drinks a little more sour, up the lemon, or if you want it sweeter, up the honey.
