Engagement sessions will never fail to delight us. Give us a love story, a sunset and a stunning coastal clifftop and we’re completely smitten.
Today, we’re telling the story of Kelvin & Jen. These two chose Russell Stafford for their engagement sunset session. The trio taking to Sydney’s Royal National Park for a session that embraced their love of the great outdoors.
“Since we both love the great outdoors, we really wanted to choose a style and location that was natural so that we could be our most comfortable” explains Jen. “Although neither of us had explored Wattamolla before, we have hiked numerous times in Royal National Park and loved the scenery and quietude the place offered. Both of us were also selective about the type of photography we liked, and Russell’s was the only one that we both agreed on instantly. We love the timelessness of his photography, the balance he can create, and how he can capture those special moments in time.”
It was a bit of a wobbly start for these two who share “Our story began back in university when Jen was about to embark on adventures for her study exchange in the U.S. We knew of each other from friends but didn’t really speak much until at a friend’s birthday party where we had our first real conversation. From then onwards, Kelvin thought that there was something about Jen that intrigued him but couldn’t quite put a finger on. Jen then left for the U.S. and on her 21st birthday, she received a parcel with a Tiffany’s necklace and was surprised to find it was from Kelvin. However, she didn’t feel they had a deep enough connection and told him she would prefer being friends. One year later, Jen came back to Sydney and Kelvin thought it was a good idea to try again. This time, he was successful, and we’ve been together ever since.”
Stunning Vietnam, after a family holiday, was just the place Kelvin wanted when he decided to ask Jen to marry him. “We were travelling with Kelvin’s family in Vietnam before we continued with the remainder of the trip ourselves. After exploring the beautiful Ha Long Bay, we made our way to a small province called Ninh Binh to explore more of the local culture. We both love hiking and were planning to do a sunrise hike at Hang Mua peak (also known as Mua caves). After we ascended to the top, we found a small clearing that we thought would be great for sunrise photos. We settled here for a while to watch the sunrise with a stunning view of the mountains before Kelvin mentioned he had an early anniversary gift-ready. Surprise! A Pixel 3 suddenly appeared from nowhere and had a preloaded montage of our photos together over the years. He then proceeded to step away to readjust his camera before coming back and dropping to one knee and holding out a red box with a diamond ring. Not a bad location to get engaged indeed!”
Tell the happy couple “We find that we’re learning something new about each other every day (the good and the bad!) but we’ll always show how we care for each other in our own way. We have a common passion for exploring the great outdoors and trying new things together, from dragon boating, hip-hop dancing, rock-climbing, yoga, and even sky-diving in the most beautiful of places, New Zealand.
We have laughed and cried through so many ups and downs that it’s felt like a rollercoaster but believe that what we have is immensely special and we’re excited to take the next step of our lives together.”
Fantastic images. Very well done
