Bright red is not the first colour that instantly pops into a couples mind when envisioning their wedding day! Whilst red is a romantic and passionate colour; couples tend to lean towards burgundy reds or red’s cousin ‘pink’.
Our clients, Ada and Jason, chose the stunning ballroom at the Ritz Carlton in Perth. A room bathed in soft timber, stunning glass chandeliers and a red swirl pattern carpet with a design connected to the Western Australian landscape. Our wedding design approach was to embrace the carpet pattern and colour and integrate red into the table styling and floral design. We blended the carpet visually up into the tables, from a design perspective, we merged the horizontal plane with the room’s vertical plane.
As to not overwhelm the tables with the colour red, we chose to alternate the table design. One set of tables had a white linen cloth with a pale pink napkin, white chair and tall gold candelabra with giant cascading orchids. The alternate set of tables had a pale pink linen cloth with a rust-red napkin, pale pink velvet chair and low table florals with pink candles, creating a soft colour blend throughout the room.
The floral styling was all about using red as the hero colour and pairing this with varying pinks from candy pink in the vases to pale pink in the roses. The design key here was to keep the floral design minimal by using only roses, orchids and burgundy preserved foliage. This choice meant we were not contrasting with the heavily patterned carpet. The venues soft, warm lighting assisted in creating a romantic aesthetic.
And of course, you can never go wrong with teaming red with a splash of gold and the hero feature piece was the gold mirrored cake plinth, which reflected the carpet and created a stunning reflection of the red carpet reaching up to the all-white wedding cake.
Our advice is never to be afraid to use bright red at your wedding; the colour can create the unexpected!
