Showtime Events

Showtime Events

Cargo Hall

Cargo Hall

Both these venues are located in the South Wharf Promenade in Melbourne right on the Yarra River. Showtime Events is a warehouse conversion which offers “offers the ultimate in industrial styling and urban-chic ambience.” Just as its sister venue Cargo Hall, the venues are both purpose built for weddings, but making the most of their heritage features such original timber and exposed beams while at the same time incorporating modern luxury features such as a custom chandelier bar and a riverside marquee at Showtime Events, and a stunning riverside glass conservatory at Cargo Hall. Backed by a team of wedding producers, kitchen and operations teams – these award winning venues are perfect for weddings from 80 -200+ guests. They really are two venues you should consider for a truly unforgettable wedding celebration!

We asked Colleen of Showtime Events & Cargo Hall five questions in five minutes:

Weddings are the best to work on because….
a. You’re celebrating love! The world is made up of 7.6 BILLION people, and you’re a part of the celebration of two soul mates managed to find each other! It’s also a chance for the couple to have everyone they love in the same room, which really may only happen once!
b. Being a wedding planner has such a special job as it’s the first time the couple is announced as Partners and sharing a milestone together as husband and wife (or wife and wife, or husband and husband!) and you have the significant responsibility to make it the perfect first memory.

What is something people would be surprised to know about your job or something that challenges you about your job?

To execute a wedding, it truly takes a VILLAGE! Here at Showtime, we meet once a week to outline what’s happening for the next 7 days. Not only do you have me working with you and your other suppliers, but you also have:
i. Head Chef
ii. Sous Chef
iii. Head of Operations
iv. Operations Team (at least one if not two!)
v. AV/Library Techs/Security Team
For us, it’s not just me who knows your name. Chef Ryan will know that your mum is Vegan and has a special meal for her. Our Operations team know that your sister just had a baby, and we need to create a nursing station for her. One of our wait staff knows your dad likes his whisky neat, and which bottle you’ve brought in specifically for us to pour just for him. You’re not just another name and client and wedding, our whole team is truly invested and knows all about you, and care just as much as the Wedding Producer.

What is it about the creative process that you most enjoy?

The food and beverage experience! A signature cocktail on arrival truly sets the mood. I love to find the perfect cocktail that plays homage to something about the couple (think Espresso Martinis because they had it on the first date, aperol spritz because they get engaged in Italy, etc!). It’s unique to each couple, it makes for fantastic photos, and they taste GREAT! That being said I also love planning a surprise late night snack for guests. There is NOTHING better than a Wagyu Beef Slider after dancing and drinks, and your guests will LOVE you for it (and won’t go home hungry, and guests will appreciate being full and not going on a McDonalds run!) .

What are you hilariously bad at?
Directions. And getting lost. I remember when I first started working at the State Library Victoria (which I like to joke and call it Hogwarts, I swear there are moving staircases!) I had to go meet a couple to collect items they were dropping off for the big day. I got so lost, going from the office to dispatch, I had to call my boss Hayley and ask her to help get me where I was going! Worst part is, when you reach the basement, no cell service. I was painfully lost. You could put me in a cardboard box and I’d still get lost…

When you were small what did you dream of being and where have those dreams taken you?
Does high school count as “small”? In my Junior Year of High school (Year 11), I was in charge of the Prom Committee. Honestly, that’s when I knew I wanted to be in the events world! It was such a fun experience to create something from nothing, and take everyone’s ideas, and make them come alive. After that I went to college for a Hospitality Management degree, and have followed that path ever since. I’ve gotten to work for a world renowned wedding planner in Virginia, created and executed an event for an American Clothing Designer, and gotten to meet some truly amazing people along the way. Now I’m living my dreams working at the State Library creating and executing Weddings, and I love every single day of it.
