When the extraordinary team from Grecian bridal specialty Atelier Zolotas sent us these stunning images from a recent styled shoot, I was immediately transported to the soft sand and rugged landscape of the Greek Isles. I could feel the sun on my face, smell the fresh Mediterranean food, and the sound of a band somewhere warming up for a fabulous wedding party by the sea.
I sat down with the masterminds behind the shoot, the lovely Alica from Mneme Photography who captures this stunning bohemian scene and Sophie from powerhouse bridal design house, Zolotas.
With travel and wedding restrictions being enforced here in Australia, this stunning shoot is taking me on an emotional rollercoaster! Haha. What was your inspiration behind the shoot and location?
Alica from Mneme Photography: Through these difficult times that the whole of humanity is facing, and being separated from our loved ones around the world in some cases, we wanted to celebrate the one thing that transcends all situations and unites us – love!
With this styled shoot we wanted to transport you straight to the Greek Islands and give you a feeling of warmth, freedom and summer! Somewhere where the sun and the sea can make all the troubles go away, at least for a while anyway. We chose a seaside location next to Athens with rough landscape and warm light.
Summer time in Greece is not like in any other country, here you will see that the sun is brighter and the sea and sunset combines all the colours of a painter’s pallet. That is why it was the perfect choice for a wedding like that!
I can feel the connection between this couple! It’s palpable! How did you achieve that chemistry on location?
Alica from Mneme Photography: Well, that’s because Monica and Constantino are a real couple. They completely embody a freedom-loving lifestyle and that is the reason that they so in harmony with each other and the scenery.
How did working with the wonderful Atelier Zolotas Design house work into your vision?
Alica from Mneme Photography: The bridal look with its unconventional vintage flair and the boho hat as well as the suit with earthly colours and the elegant lines were perfect matches for our concept.
You mentioned Constantino’s suit. Visually, what do you think works best for a summer wedding, whether a member of the couple being married or a guest?
Alica from Mneme Photography: If you are attending a wedding that is under this playful yet chic theme, prepare yourself for an experience that wills warmth your heart for the rest of your life. For the gentlemen, the best choice would be a simple pastel colour suit that will bring out your summery mood and yet will be comfy enough for you to enjoy the day.
Why did you choose the trending and gorgeous two piece bridal look for this shoot?
Sophie from Atelier Zolotas: When it comes to handmade haute couture with vintage aesthetics, we always love the chance to make it more… fresh!
The crop top and skirt combination was especially chosen to highlight the feminine lines like only a mermaid wedding skirt is able to!
The top is embellished with hand-knitted crochet embroidery, a trademark for the design house but also a quintessentially vintage and bohemian textural material.
On that topic, what can you tell me about the other fabrics?
Sophie from Atelier Zolotas: We also chose a pure-cotton. It’s fresh, natural, lightweight, and breathable but it also gives a bride the freedom of movement and self-expression. In this shoot, we feel it really helps emphasise that free, head- over- heels- in- love spirit of a newlywed!
The outfit is so modern and “non-traditional” which is ironically now more common! And yet you have included that incredible train and it just works! Can you talk me through that inspired choice?
Sophie from Atelier Zolotas: The long train gave this editorial the dramatic touch that every wedding scene needs! And when the sun sets, it will provide this gorgeous bride with a delightful wrap to keep her warm.
