With us all getting gritty for The City Issue, we knew our cocktail selection for the month had to follow suit. So today, we’re honouring the classic, the beauty, the favourite- The Manhattan cocktail!. Made with bourbon whiskey and vermouth, this cocktail is strong, decadent and packs its own kind of special punch.

Originating in the late 1800’s, it is traditional for this cocktail to be served in a cocktail glass, and while it includes the readily available vermouth, it’s sweet red vermouth. You can also add different kinds of bitters (like citrus or cherry) for your own personal twist. We recommend this favourite served as your cocktail on arrival, or bring it out with a deep, chocolatey dessert to fortify your guests for dancing.

Ingredients

  • 60ml bourbon
  • 30ml vermouth
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
  • Maraschino cherry
  • Ice

Method

In a cocktail shaker combine ice, bourbon, vermouth and bitters. stir until combined and cold

Strain into a cocktail glass

Garnish with a maraschino cherry
