April & John
Where Are They Now?
Tell us about your wedding?
Our wedding was a garden vintage themed wedding. We had the ceremony in my parents’ garden and our reception at a bowls club in Johns (and our future) home of Roleystone. We were surrounded by all our family from near and far including Johns relatives from Scotland.
It was freezing cold, rainy and windy and not a typical spring wedding, but it was perfect. The day was fun and full of love. We decorated both venues on our own with help from friends and relatives and we both felt like it gave our day a really special feel.
Now that some time has passed, what would you differently?
Everything was brilliant, we don’t feel like we’d change anything. Can you change the weather??
What was the memorable moment of your wedding day?
Johns- taking photos on the bowling green because it meant we just got to be alone together on the day
April’s- I was freezing at the start of the ceremony as we sat down, and John held my hand, leaned over and placed a wrap over my back to warm me up.
What advice do you have for others planning their wedding?
Remember the most important thing is that you’re marrying each other. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter about anything other than marrying each other.
Take a day before the wedding to do something non-wedding related with each other. Planning can be stressful and the day can take time away from enjoying each other in the moment. So take a time out and have some fun.
On the day, make sure you spend time together regularly. It’s such a busy day, blink and you miss it. So spend time together.
Did you have any vendors you absolutely adored and still remember?
Our photographer Kate Drennan was absolutely amazing! She made everything so easy and gave us the most magical photos to remember our day by
If you could do it all over again, what would your wedding look like?
We loved our wedding, just the way it was. We’ve got wonderful memories and had a blast, it would look exactly the same today.
Where has life taken you? What are you up to now?
We have been busy since we got married! We’ve had two beautiful children. Our nearly 3-year-old Connor and our 6-month-old Oliver are absolute joys. We’re constantly working on the house that we built in Roleystone and love just spending time with family. I (April) stay at home with the boys and John owns a commercial electrical company.
What is the secret to your marriage?
Always show love, communicate and be patient with each other. Remember what you promised to each other the day you got married. Have fun! Make each other laugh and eat all the yummy treats together once the kids go to bed!
I had the honour of being the Celebrant for Will and Michele. Great couple, awesome venue and a very happy day.
