We asked Harveen from The Guildford Hotel five questions in five minutes:
What is the most important piece of advice you can give to engaged couples?
Do what you are comfortable with. I often find couples trying to meet the expectations of family or society. For “the image”. Breaking banks and sacrificing their visions for something they might regret doing down the road. The Bride & Groom should have their vision, plan and comfortable budget establish. People will always have something to say about your wedding even if you have a $5,000 or $25,000 wedding. Do what makes you happy and try to incorporate little wishes of family members but never going overboard.
Finally, enjoy the process and the day. Some wedding planning causes a lot of tension and fights. It should bring families together and not break them. All that planning and fussing will be over before you realise it and you want happy memories to look back on.
Tell us about a hidden talent you have?
I can keep calm in stressful situations. Come to me with a problem, and I will help you find a solution so your special day goes unspoiled.
As a vendor, what excites you about the wedding day?
Watching it all fall in place together. The smiles of couples as they walk into a finished room. Most importantly ceremonies. Ceremonies are so crucial, and it should be perfect for any couple as it will be the one to remember.
What are you known for?
Styling ideas: I have plenty of ideas to offer as I feel a wedding should always explore options and not stick to the norm. Go with your heart and not by the rules – that’s what I tell my couples.
Experience: I have experience in all sorts of weddings, including Afghan, African, Indian etc. I can cater to each one when required as well as always share my experience, be it good and bad, to help couples learn from it. Ceremonies can also be tricky. As couples are the most anxious during that time and you must be able to multitask yet handle the bride at the same time.
Emotions: No wedding is perfect. Things can go wrong. I’ve seen situations turn really ugly at weddings. The most important thing is to not PANIC. The one person who has to stay calm and carry on is the coordinator/Manager. He/she can`t afford to break down, but to resolve or act fast.
If you could choose a song to play for the rest of your life what would it be?
Hero – Enrique Iglesias (weird, I know).
