Nicola & Matt
I’m a country girl at heart, and I know nothing beats the golden light Mother Nature delivers to places like Toowoomba, where paddocks are wide, overgrown and filled with country charm. For Nicola and Matt, that, along with the talent of the incredible Leah Cruikshank Photography was a combination that could be truly unbeaten, to share their story. An engagement session in the country in the sunset? Tick, tick!
It was an instant attraction for these two, who met while Matt was working for Nicola’s father. Nicola fills us in. “Matt was working at my dad’s place and that’s when we started talking, he was from England and didn’t know many people so I sort of took him under my wing and introduced him to some of my friends. I ended up having a sickie(my first one) because I knew he was going to working at the house that day and I wanted to see him again… so to make things less obvious I took up ice blocks for the boys just to have a reason to talk again!”
The groom to be surprised Nicola with a proposal one random Friday afternoon, she shares “Matt surprised me with a trip to Brisbane (2 hours from home) on a Friday afternoon after work. He wouldn’t say where we were going but he did say it wasn’t for dinner. It ended up being a Mamma Mia concert! Afterwards, we went out for a little snack. I remember thinking to myself he might be going to propose, but the night went on and nothing happened. I had to keep telling myself not to get disappointed if he doesn’t, but just think about how fun the night had been so far…. and when I thought all hope was lost we finished our snack and he got down on one knee in front of the Brisbane river at South Bank (the place of our first date).
Nicola, of course, loves everything about Matt, but it’s his eyes that make the top of her list. “I love his BIG blue eyes that always seem to be smiling and his gentle nature that makes me feel safe and completely comfortable.”
Matt was smitten with Nicola from early on, explaining “It didn’t take long to realise what a wonderful person Nicola was, gorgeous, funny, kinda carefree and VERY infectious. The more time I spent with her the more I need to, it really proved to me when I went to New Zealand for a month and all I could think about was her, I was even up texting till 4 am in the morning.”
