This year is well and truly drawing to a close and I’m sure you’ve seen we’re rounding up all of the goodness that 2018 has had to offer! We couldn’t discount the incredible creative minds that have helped to contribute and make a success of Polka Dot Made! From tutorials to cocktails, there are so many wonderful things to learn – and try at home! Here’s just a recap of a few favourites!
“If you’re a lover of blooms and are looking for some gorgeous floral details to add to your big day, why not make your own flower petal confetti? Use your favourite flowers or blooms that will be used in your bouquet, petals from your Nan’s garden or even the stems from a sentimental gift bunch. Such a simple way to add a special touch to your day, and to get your hands amongst the petals!”
“I thought it best to give a recipe for a double layer cake incase you’d like to make this at home for any other celebration besides marriage, but if you would like to create the same 4 layer cake I did for Polka Dot Bride, then simply double this recipe and divide between 4 cake tins.”

“Your wedding is one day only, so we’re big fans of embracing the best of both worlds with a sunset wedding reception. Envision your guests enjoying the golden light of late afternoon, the spectacle of the sinking sun and then up the glamour stakes by nightfall. To do this you need a find a venue that has prime views (which Watson’s Bay Boutique Hotel – overlooking Sydney Harbour – sure does)! They’ve even created a unique ombre cocktail to celebrate the sunset hours which they’ve kindly shared with us below.”
“If you love the smell of a herb garden and the idea of bringing the outdoors in, then you’re in luck! Try your hand at making these easy smudge sticks, and you’ll be rewarded with the most incredible aromas, both as you make them and as they smoke away. Make this your new flower crown party and pile up mountains of herbs and blooms for your friends to make their own – hello bridal shower! Or place them at table settings for an earthy and scented gift for your guests.”

From incredible opals to sparkling morganite and everything in between, we’ve found five alternatives (and plenty of options!) for a diamond free engagement ring!”
“How sweet is this flower crown made out of the plants du jour, succulents? They’re beautiful for your flower girls and bridesmaids, but would also make a nice statement piece for the bride too. “Decorating for your wedding day or bridal shower can be incredibly effective by using a few simple ingredients. Making use of lengths of greenery to weave ivy wreaths can create a stunning centrepiece!”
“The word is out that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be sharing with their guests a lemon elderflower cake incorporating the bright flavours of spring, covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers. So while the royals and their select few guests enjoy their beautiful towering tiered cake version of this on Saturday, we can enjoy the more humble (but equally tasty) cupcake creation at home!”
” I was wandering through Bunnings picking up some seedlings and stumbled across these copper garden tags. How perfect for a wedding place setting, I thought, and promptly began to research ways they could be utilised. I have come up with the following tutorial which is as simple as they come. The most difficult step, is working out how to write your guest names backwards. Think of it as a good brain exercise!”
