As we fall into the long and warm days of Summer, keeping food, flowers and friends cool can become somewhat tricky! These giant ice cubes filled with berries and edible flowers are a gorgeous addition to a Summer soiree, to keep drinks cool and iced water as pretty as it’s ever been.
Working within your colour palette, choose the freshest fruit and flowers possible and be sure to clear out your freezer for plenty of space. You can make these floral ice cubes in advance and store them in trays once they’re frozen, finding giant cube trays at most departments stores. This is a simple way to make your drinks look absolutely lovely, especially for Summer!
What You Will Need:
- Ice cube trays – the larger the better, as they will take longer to melt
- Fruit – choose blemish free and fresh fruit
- Flowers – edible flowers include violets, geraniums, coriander flowers, herbs, and more!
- Water
- Sharp knife and cutting board
Step 1. Refrain from washing your selected flowers, gently removing any blemishes with some damp paper towel instead. Pinch off stems and keep flowers cool. Keep some berries whole, but slice up others to create some beautifully coloured ice cubes.
Step 2. You can make every ice cube the same, or mix up each one for a different effect. Once you’re happy with the combinations you’ve created, fill them with water, and pop into the freezer.
Step 3. Leave the ice cubes for approximately 12 hours. If you’re making them in bulk, you can pop them out of the trays into a tray to place back in the freezer, while you make more. If not, place them into a chilled tray to keep the ice cubes as cool as possible until they’re displayed.
Hunt for some gorgeous display trays that you can place these on, topped with your chosen drinks, or stack up tall in glass bowls for your lucky guests to add to their drinks with some tongs and mixers. Keeping cool on a warm Summer’s day at a sublime soiree has never looked so beautiful!
