As it starts to warm up, I get excited about summer weddings and all the fun things you can do at a wedding when it’s hot! This week on Behind the Door I’m meeting a business owner who knows just the thing to cool down your special event, Katie from Delish Ice.
Delish Ice offer a beautiful guest experience serving their gourmet ice pops at weddings, events and parties. Ice pops are particularly perfect straight after the ceremony on a warm afternoon, but they also pop up at engagement parties, corporate events and brand activations, markets and more.
Katie tells me that like many small businesses the idea came about during a cross roads in her life, when she was wondering if she might like to do something different.
“Delish Ice was born in 2011 and we’ve been having fun ever since” says Katie “My initial inspiration came from a few sources … a Donna Hay Magazine with ice pops on the front cover and the epiphany that no one else in WA or even Australia at the time (that I could see) was really doing anything similar”.
Of course, such a summery business is located in Western Australia! “Perth is so much about the relaxed lifestyle” says Katie, ” I love the sun, the beach, my friends and family, foodie events, the great dining out and cocktail scene”. Delish Ice can do events in Perth, Mandurah, the Dunsborough and Margaret River regions of WA and have a gorgeous vintage style caravan or “pop-carts” from which to serve their icy treats.
The vintage inspired pop-cart comes complete with its own little garden, white picket fence, pink flamingos and tiki umbrella to really set the scene. You’ll be served by a Dishy Dame, dressed in classic vintage attire. The vintage caravan is a standout option for those that really want to make an impact. Delish Ice set it up with pink flamingos, 50’s music and a bubble machine!
When it comes to flavours, Delish Ice have many, many different options like basil and elderflower, raspberry lemonade and choc cherry coconut. “I love coming up with different flavour combinations to tickle the taste buds” say Katie “Our fruity, refreshing flavours are most popular for weddings – that’s what people crave on a warm afternoon. Howver, we also have a great range of creamy, dessert style flavours too and we’ve just launched a creamy vegan range too that I love”. They also cater to all different dietary requirements with many flavours being gluten free, dairy free and even no added sugar! Who wants a champagne after a ceremony when you can have an ice pop?!
Ms Zebra Says: My mouth is watering just at the thought! Who doesn’t love something cool & refreshing on a warm afternoon!? What a fab addition to any summer wedding.
