Nicole & Scott

It was a sunny beautiful day in the Adelaide suburb of Glenelg when Nicole and Scott tied the knot. Their day, which involves plenty of their favourite things, was full of modern touches – like sequins and smoke bombs, and heartfelt ones – the bride commissioning a beautiful hand-drawn portrait of the groom’s father, and a delicious doughnut wall that truly represented the way these two feel for one another. It was all captured beautifully by Boutique Blinks and I can’t wait to share it all with you today!

The couple met while both working for the army – Nicole training to be medic, while Scott was working as one of the physical trainers of the group. Nicole explains “We actually got in trouble for having a relationship between a trainee and a member of staff. We continued the relationship and Scotty proposed to me two weeks before I was due to post to Brisbane for my first posting.

Scotty had taken me to a nearby tourist town for the day and took me to some waterfalls but nothing had happened during the day. I did think he was acting differently though. That night Scotty pulled a ring out from under the pillow and said: “Marry me!?” I said, “Of course, I will!” However, it took me what seemed like forever to get the words out.”

Nicole wore the elegant long-sleeve “Aubrey” gown designed by Karen Willis Holmes. She explains “the gown was stunning yet very simple. The cut was sexy yet classic. I had many compliments. All of my tattoos were covered and I had Hollywood waves in my hair.”

A Peony For Your Thoughts created the bright magenta and pink floral arrangements that Nicole dreamt of. “My flowers were stunning, I wanted vibrant pinks. I had Bonnie provide my flowers and they were simply beautiful. Exactly what I had in mind. I had flowers all throughout the ceremony, hanging in the elm tree behind us and hanging off the guest chairs. My bridal party flowers were incredible, the boy’s buttonholes even had risen gold wire to hold them together.”

Planning an interstate wedding, Nicole went completely on gut feeling and chose Partridge House for the wedding ceremony, she explains “I organised my whole wedding from QLD, I chose Partridge after seeing the stunning pictures of the building and gardens. We did visit Adelaide a few months before the wedding and stood under the elm tree where we were booked in to be married and we had goosebumps.”

Nicole gifted her new family a special gift, explaining “I had a beautiful drawing of Scotty’s father at the ceremony, drawn by a Perth artist named Karla Baker. Scotty’s father David was a policeman who was killed on duty a few years ago. I had his portrait drawn as a surprise for him and his family. The Portrait was placed at the ceremony with some flowers on some crates.”

Nicole remembers “I walked down the aisle to James Arthur’s  “Say you won’t let go”. I think you pick a song which you see yourself walking to in your head.. which I did and I would get teary. I barely remember walking down the aisle but the song was perfect.”

Alexandra Stockley officiated the ceremony, Nicole noting “I wanted the ceremony to be reasonably small and have a relaxed feel to it. I kept the ceremony short and sweet. Scotty and I wrote our own vows. I thought mine were good but his were perfect. Scotty had a little tear as I walked towards him but throughout the readings, we were composed and it flowed beautifully. We did ensure we paid respect to the loved ones who were unable to make it to our wedding day.”

Creativity even extended to the guest’s clothing, tells the bride. “One of my best friends Dan Edwards is an extrovert and dresses in spectacular clothes.. he wore a jacket which he had covered in artwork that related to mine and Scotty’s lives. It had a painting of our pet cats, it had the Australian Army symbol, it had two paintings of us, it had a Winnie the Pooh which was a childhood love of mine. It also had wedding rings and our wedding date. This was a wedding gift from Dan and the reaction on my part was fantastic, I couldn’t believe my eyes!! Dan is such a special friend of mine.”

The couple chose their favourite people to stand beside them, the bride explaining “I had Lora my matron of honour, a best girlfriend who I met in the gym. We kept our friendship even through me leaving Adelaide to join the Army in 2014. My bridesmaid was Cassie-Ann, Cass enlisted into the Army on the same day as me and this is when we met, as we both were enlisting to become medics we shared accommodation, we became best mates and housemates for 3 years. Cass and I both met our prince charming in the Army, she too married an Army guy and was shortly expecting their first baby at my wedding (hence the beautiful baby belly). Scotty’s best man was Bevan. Scotty and Bevan met in the army also many years ago and are best friends. His Groomsman was little brother Mathew.”

“Alex from Boutique Blinks was my fill in when my initial photographer fell pregnant” explains Alex. “Thank goodness she did because Alex was the best investment of the whole wedding. What a great guy to spend our day with. I highly recommend Alex! We had to communicate via the internet to chat about what our ideas were and he nailed it! My favourite photograph is a photo of Scotty and I in Port Adelaide in the middle of the road in between some industrial looking buildings, it’s a classic and gorgeous photo and I have it enlarged and framed in my living room. It captures the back of my dress and Scotty looks gorgeous too, so handsome.”

Reception celebrations kicked off at Lakes Resort Hotel. “I chose The Lakes Resort Hotel in West Lakes after my sister in law recommended the venue. It overlooks the water and the venue was newly renovated in areas” tells the bride.

Being far away in another State, the couple chose Barossa Styling and Events to style their day. Nicole telling “My wedding stylist Chelsea from Barossa Styling and Events was amazing, we had contact for many months leading up to the wedding, sharing my ideas and my Pinterest board. It’s fair to say she nailed my styling ideas. I am don obsessed and Chelsea nailed the doughnut wall brief with the help of the delicious doughnuts from Brighton Jetty Bakery. My other favourite detail of the day was probably my flowers, they really made the wedding gorgeous. I think it all just came together in terms of styling with the flowers and the rest of the details.”
