I love unexpected wedding venues and this week I’m thrilled to be visiting a very unique one, Mountain Goat Brewery. Mountain Goat are famous for their beer and after opening their Richmond brewery in 1999, the owners started opening for tasting nights once a month. As the business grew, they relocated to a bigger warehouse in Richmond with more space and started hosting events and eventually weddings.

I meet Brad, the events manager, and he tells me that couples love the space as it offers something really different from your standard wedding venue. “At first it was a venue that the grooms loved, but now it’s just as popular with brides who love craft beer,” says Brad.

A real working brewery, Mountain Goat is divided into the brewery at the back and the brew house/bar at the front. It’s got a gorgeous industrial vibe with polished concrete floors, a giant bar stacked high with colourful beer boxes and lots of mismatched furniture and plants for greenery. Brad tells me that the overhead fairylights are very popular at weddings and that the big roller door is perfect for an unexpected grand entrance from the bride and groom.

Mountain Goat run the bar and couples are spoilt with a choice of six beers on tap as well as wine and other drinks. Brad tells me that couples love coming in before the wedding to sample different beers and choose their favourites for the big day. It’s also a great place to come for date night and Brad tells me that he often sees couples who were married in the space popping back for a trip down memory lane.

For food, couples can choose any caterer they like, and the roller door makes it the perfect space for food trucks. “It’s a really versatile space that can accommodate a ceremony, cocktail reception, fully seated dinner and dance floor,” says Brad. “We can set it up however they like”.

Of course being a brewery couples get really creative with incorporating beer. Brad tells me he’s seen beer wedding favours and even custom stubby holders featured at weddings. I love how different this wedding venue is and I’m sure it’s an unexpected delight for any guests who love their beer!

Ms Zigzag says: This venue is perfect for the modern couple who want to celebrate their love and commitment to each other in a relaxed environment without all of the fuss. I love that you can bring in your own caterers and style out the venue however you please.
