Carolann & Steven
This Scottish country garden wedding features gorgeous wild bouquets, pastel gowns, the sweetest flower girls and a kilt or two thrown in for good measure! We absolutely love the vintage feel of the day, with photographer Alexandra Strong – Honest Studio present to capture every beautiful detail.
After growing up in the same town in Scotland, several years went by before a very fortunate reunion happened in Australia. Carolann tells, ”Our paths crossed again 12 years later when we both ended up living in Melbourne. Steven was going home to Scotland for a month and it wasn’t until he left that we both realized we were in love. From then on we have been inseparable!”
The couple wanted their heritage to be included on the day, with Carolann recalling, ”We wanted the ceremony to feel really Scottish, so we had everything from thistles to bagpipes, kilts, music and hand fasting. We wrote our own vows, and Steven had most of the guests crying!” The bouquets were put together by a close friend of the bride, and Carolann walked down the aisle to For The Love of a Princess by Brave Heart.
Carolann struggled to find her dream dress, sharing, ”I knew in my head exactly what I wanted. Everything I looked at was too much, too lacy, too puffy or too bridal. It was hard because I wanted to feel like a bride whilst feeling like me, and for the dress to be comfortable with a romantic and flowing feeling. We found a dressmaker called Stanley Lindell, and from the start he got me. It was exciting creating my own dress, and worth it!” The groom wore traditional highland dress with a fly plaid.
Selecting a song for their first dance was tricky, with the bride telling, ”We had so many options because we both love music. We didn’t want anything too cheesy and soppy, but at the same time we wanted it to be full of love and emotion. I heard Crazy for You when I met Steven and we both love Madonna. It’s a old song but a classic – it suited us perfectly!” Carolann lists Pure Silver Flutes as one of the highlights of the day.
Choosing Alowyn Gardens was easy for the bride and groom, with Carolann telling, ‘As soon as we saw the gardens we fell in love. It felt really intimate and almost like a secret secluded spot. We both share a passion for flowers, trees and gardens so this felt like the perfect place, but most of all the 100 meter wisteria covered arbor was the selling point!” Jacqueline from Events by Jacque pulled the day together, with the party continuing afterwards at a nearby bar where guests enjoyed drinks and tapas.
Thank you to our beautiful bride and groom on sharing their wedding day with us, and a huge congratulations to Carolann and Steven on their wedding! A special thank you also to photographer Alexandra Strong – Honest Studio for these stunning images.
