Why should brides and bridesmaids have all the fashionable fun? We’ve scoured the recent Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF) runways to find the latest men’s wedding suit ideas for Autumn/Winter 2017 grooms and their groomsmen.
Boring black suits begone. The blue suit – particularly in midnight, cobalt and royal hues – is still having a moment. Checks and plaid patterns can make even conservative suits look more interesting. Think beyond wearing a plain white shirt underneath and try layering check on check. For the adventurous groom, velvet is back in vogue for women and the same holds true for men’s fashion. This can be a tricky trend to deploy but can look beautifully apt for a wintry themed wedding. Just be sure to contain the fabric to your blazer only and avoid the head-to-toe brown velvet looks of our 70’s-era dads and granddads!
Speaking of jackets, it’s a safe bet to opt for something single-breasted up top, worn sans vest with a notched (rather than “peaked”) lapel. Pants are slimline, cropped at the ankle and worn without socks. This season, a suit doesn’t even have to be a suit at all. Consider shaking up the solids by mixing and matching your jacket and pants in different patterns, colours or fabrics.
When it comes to accessories, ties are slim but not quite skinny. Beyond the traditional tie, fabric flowers pinned to your lapel, western-style ties or wearing no tie at all may add personality to your wedding day look.
