Gold cutlery, cut crystal glassware, gorgeous layered ceramics and hand lettered place cards. Yep, we want it all! But sometimes budget and *ahem* practicality have to come into play when you’re pulling together tablescapes for your wedding reception. Unless you’re lucky enough to be getting married in a venue that gives you total free rein in the lead up, or have a small army of helpers employed on the day, Pinterest worthy tablescapes can be tricky and costly to achieve.
But never fear! Here are five hot tips for adding a unique stylised touch to your place settings, with just a few florals and tonne of creativity.
Get creative with your napkins!
OK, so maybe gold dipped linen napkins for every guest isn’t possible. But slipping your folded white napkin under the plate, running off the edge of the table, is a pretty and unexpected touch.
Layer up your florals
Rather than just the standard floral centrepiece between every eight people, spread out your florals by adding a few smaller bud vases with just a stem or two in each, or lay stems of foliage down the centre of the table, interspersed with florals. Layers of florals add texture, interest and a beautiful floral abundance to your table.
Tie it up!
Yep, we’ve seen a single bloom on a plate a thousand times. But amp it up by using a length of beautiful grosgrain ribbon tied around the stem, ends rippling over the edge of the plate. You can find amazing vintage ribbons online or even on eBay! It’s just a little touch that takes barely any time but adds piles of charm.
Candles, candles, candles!
Nothing oozes romance like a sea of twinkling candlelight. Use a combination of inexpensive pillar candles and tea lights popped inside endless recycled glasses, glass jars or votives.
Three-in-one!
Place cards, menus, thank you notes. It all adds up to extra work that you could probably do without. Instead, combine all three in a gorgeous personalised menu, placed at each setting, complete with a message from the bride and groom!
