Ash & Sam
There is something very special about the feeling I get from Ash & Sam’s vintage jazz cocktail party wedding. I’m not sure whether it’s the sweet vintage details, the beautiful emotion and intimacy or the fact it’s a love story that I love so much. Ash and Sam chose Free the Bird Photography to capture their day.
The couple initially met when they were teenagers, reconnecting online through Myspace! Ash remembers, “Sam and I were introduced by a mutual friend when I was 14 and he was 15, we were friends initially and then lost contact for a few years. I got a message out of the blue one day on Myspace from Sam wanting to know if I wanted to catch up and we have been together ever since. Sam and I got married 4 days after our 10 year anniversary.”
Ash chose a gown designed by Anna Campbell. She tells, “I did a lot of research online and as soon as I saw an Anna Campbell gown I knew that I wanted to get married in an Anna Campbell design. I made an appointment and went along with my Mum, I feel in love with the second dress I tried on, the Annabella gown in the Made to Measure collection. It was flowing and sparkly and I loved everything about it. I had three appointments to have the dress made and every time I visited the Armadale boutique it was a fantastic experience.”
“I walked down the aisle to a cover of A Thousand Years by Christina Perri covered by the ‘Piano Guys’.”
Marry Me Sean officiated the ceremony, the bride remembering, “We were married outside surrounded by the grape vines. Our celebrant did an amazing job at capturing the attention of the guests and provided a very entertaining summary of our relationship. My younger brother gave a reading called ‘The Wedding Ring’ and Sam’s younger cousin gave a reading called ‘Love is…’. I loved our ceremony, it was simple and entertaining and totally us.”
Ash and Sam chose One Day Estate for their wedding, noting, “We had our ceremony and reception at One Day Estate. It is a small winery a few minutes outside of Ocean Grove in Victoria. The venue was absolutely perfect, the building is barn like and is filled with recycled and reused wooden furniture. The rafters were draped with fairy lights and chandlers and candles were scattered throughout the venue inside and out. It was so perfect we did not need to add any decorations, minus a few flowers scattered around. ”
The day was filled with special handmade touches. “My Dad and I built our wedding arbour from scratch. I went out to his farm one day and we drove around looking for the perfect tree. Once we found it we cut it down together and built the most beautiful twisted silver wood arch. It is a great memory to have made with my Dad leading up to the wedding. All of the flowers used to decorate the arbour and chairs for the ceremony were picked fresh from my Mum’s garden the morning of the wedding. My Mum also painted the fingerprint tree that we used as our alternative guest book. ”
Of their photographer, the bride remarks, “Our photographer was outstanding. Jai was so easy to get along with, made me feel so comfortable and took such stunning photos. He was fantastic to deal with right from the start and I could not believe how quickly he got our photos back to us following the wedding. He was also great at creating moments for Sam and I to spend time alone together throughout the wedding. I really appreciated the special moments he created for Sam and I to relish the fact that we were married.”
Live jazz band Orlando Combo added to the upbeat vintage vibe of the day.
