It’s amazing how something as simple as a change of chair can transform a wedding’s style. It can turn a slightly dated function space or rustic warehouse into an exciting, luxurious wedding fit for a stylish, modern couple. This week on ‘Behind the Door With…’ I’m visiting a business that knows just how to do amazing furniture transformations, Event Artillery. Located in Malaga, Western Australia, Events Artillery burst onto the events scene in October last year and have fast become one of Perth’s most stylish event hire companies.
Owner Natalie tells me the business first came about when she wanted to hire some gold Napoleon chairs for her own wedding. “We couldn’t find them anywhere so we decided to import them ourselves”, says Natalie. “As I have a background in marketing and events, I had this idea in the back of my mind that I could hire them out after the wedding to other brides and a little while later Event Artillery was born.”
Natalie tells me about how fast everything came together once they found their warehouse showroom in Malaga. “It was a crazy couple of weeks, we had hardly any time to clean the warehouse and paint the floors before giant shipping containers of furniture started arriving!”
The warehouse is multipurpose with a downstairs area to store the furniture and an upstairs showroom. Natalie chose to keep things natural and neutral so that different furniture pieces can stand out and come into their own in the space. It also makes a fantastic place for a photo shoot with its big light windows.
The chairs range from classic white Bentwoods to cool cooper Highline chairs and I love the pastel mint sofas!
The showroom is open by appointment only and Natalie tells me its perfect for clients to really touch and feel the furniture and of course try sitting in it. “Lots of people come in worried that the Highline chairs might be uncomfortable so it’s important that they can actually sit in them and realise how comfy they are” she tells me. It’s also a great place for clients to play around with different styles and mix and match pieces to create their own perfect look.
As usual I’m curious to know about any particular challenges Natalie has faced or any crazy stories she has. “I never expected that I would one day learn to drive a forklift” she laughs. “We deliver and set up the furniture so it can really get quite physical.” Natalie has also become somewhat of an interior designer as it is so important to follow interior trends when she is sourcing new furniture. I love seeing how business owners become so multi talented!
