Ally & Steve
There were not many more words appropriate for Ally and Steve’s graceful Melbourne wedding than elegant and sophisticated, and for a couple who wanted a modern day of urban simplicity well I think they nailed it. Ally and Steve worked with Clarisse Photography to capture their wedding.
Ally chose a strapless gown by Karen Willis Holmes, noting, “I saw a photo of a girl in the Prea gown and I was hooked from the moment I saw it. It was the only gown for me. It matched my theme and style. Simple, modern and sleek. The Prea gown, from the Karen Willis Holmes Bespoke Collection, features a bustier bra cup bodice with top stitching detail and panelled fishtail skirt. I loved EVERYTHING about the gown. It’s timeless and beautiful.”
Ally and Steve were married at St Ignatius, Richmond. Ally explaining, “We live close by to the church, St Ignatius. I’ve walked passed it a thousand times but had never been inside. When we decided on a church wedding I popped my head to have a look one afternoon and my jaw dropped to the ground. The inside was amazing, dramatic, romantic and had the longest aisle ever! My mum has always told me to the longer the aisle the better!”
Ally walked down the aisle to Joshua Kadison’s “Beautiful In My Eyes”.
“I wanted the ceremony to be pretty traditional but still relaxed. I tried to involve as many loved ones as I could. My mother in law, Aunty and sister in law all did readings. Steve’s parents walked down the aisle first, followed by my mum who had my two brothers by her side, the bridesmaids and myself and my dad. We walked out of the church to Florence + The Machine, You’ve Got The Love.”
“I’m from Sydney, Steve’s from Melbourne and yet we met in Canada. We had a really close circle of friends in Canada who came over for our wedding. Being from different States it’s a rare occasion that our families or friends are ever together. Having both our families, friends and our special Canadian family all in the same room together was definitely the highlight!”
Of their photographer, Ally notes, “Our photographer was amazing! We first met with Mark from Clarisse Photography for a consultation in a cafe in Richmond, he was super friendly and knowledgeable. We decided to book him for our big day about 5 minutes into the consultation. On the day he worked for over 13 hrs and his smile was ear to ear the whole time! We love our wedding album!”
Ally and Steve chose The Terrace at the Royal Botanical Gardens Melbourne for their reception, Ally noting, “The Terrace in the Royal Botanic Gardens is such a beautiful venue! Cocktails and canapes on the patio overlooking the lake with the city skyline as the backdrop. It’s a huge open venue but still feels very private and intimate! The weather on the day was a little overcast, but pretty much perfect! No rain, no wind. The night was warm enough for everyone to stay outside.”
“We made honey jars as the bonbonniere. Pouring super sticky honey into 140 tiny glass jars was tricky! Finished off with a customised sticker. I did a DIY photo booth and had a life-size Instagram frame for guest to pose for photos.” Burnt Butter Cakes created a decadent wedding cake and customised biscuits.
For their first dance, Ally and Steve chose “Latch” by Sam Smith.
Ice cream cart Bianco Latte surprised guests as they left the reception, Ally remembering, “I was all about the little details and special touches. We gave gifts to our parents during the speeches to say thank you. We had a gelato cart arrive for dessert and we had McDonalds deliver 100 cheeseburgers at the end of the night for guests to eat as they headed home.”
Congratulations Ally and Steve. Thank you for sharing the stories of your day with us! Thank you also to Clarisse Photography and Karen Willis Holmes for sharing today’s celebration!
