So many brides start their wedding journey with a stunning engagement ring and finish with a wedding band as well on the big day itself. Special jewellery can play an important part in weddings and other important life events and this week on “Behind The Door With” I met someone who has been there through it all, Faith Hilda of Faith Jewels.
Faith Jewels is in its third exciting year of business and specialises in the design and sourcing of beautiful gemstones that become custom-designed special pieces of one off-jewellery. Faith has twelve years experience in the jewellery trade and knows her stuff!
“I started at the bottom as the cleaning and coffee girl whilst I was studying my architecture degree and worked my way up to managing a fully fledged boutique with over six staff, with million dollar stock and ruthless KPIs to reach and achieve” says Faith. “I worked to breaking point, finally taking time away from the industry for a year-long holiday; I never thought I would one day have my own business.”
During this year-long break Faith’s friends continued to refer clients to her and while she initially told them she was no longer working, they insisted she help them and convinced her to start her own business. Now Faith regularly meets with clients and designs jewellery for every occasion possible including weddings, anniversaries, birth presents, special birthdays and gifts.
Faith Jewels is based in Melbourne, but Faith travels all over the world and even has clients from overseas. “I like to give each client 100%” says Faith. “Having to schedule travel to meet the demand is challenging but also the most rewarding part of the job.” While Faith can work anywhere she loves having her collection on display in the beautiful and cosy setting at Millicent Cafe and Cakery in Brunswick, where she also meets with clients by appointment. Faith hopes to eventually have offices in Hong Kong, Singapore and London too!
I asked Faith what her favourite type of job is and if she has any client stories she loves. “One of my favourite type of jobs is when the client comes to me with an heirloom gemstone or ring for me to redesign” says Faith. “It’s such an honour to hold a piece of history in my hands and breathe new life into it again.”
Faith has also loved working with coloured gemstones recently including sapphires, Columbian emeralds and Burmese rubies just to name a few. “I have been working on some new collections that bring out my architectural background with strong organic shapes and a mix of geometric lines, featuring a brave use of coloured stones and pearls.” How special for couples to be able to design something that they love just for them!
