In recent years lots of people have moved away from the traditional bride and groom cake toppers to something that better represents them as a couple. Whether that’s Lego figurines because they’re both geeks at heart or flowers to match your rustic floral arrangement, whatever you choose it should be a reflection of either your relationship or your wedding theme. This heart wreath is a pinch to make and can be made with any small flowers to match your other floral arrangements.
What you’ll need:
Flowers
Thyme (or another herb or leafy stick)
Floral wire
A skewer
Scissors
What to do:
Bend your wire to create a heart shape. Cut another piece of wire into small 1.5cm-2cm pieces.
Start wrapping the thyme around the wire and secure in place by wrapping a small piece of wire around the end tightly.
Allow the thyme to overlap and keep layering it until your get your desired coverage. Leave some loops with wire and between the wrapping of thyme so you can thread the flowers through.
Secure the base of your heart to a skewer by wrapping two pieces around the base of the heart and then swirling around the top of the skewer.
Trim your flowers so they are just the buds and about 2cm of stem then start threading them through any gaps in the wreath. If they feel loose you can wrap more wire around them to secure in place.
Slide into the top of the cake. For further decoration you can place the remaining flowers around the base of the cake.
NOTE: If you feel the flowers and wreath are loose and won’t last day, lay it down so that the front is on a piece of baking paper on a flat surface and cover the back with glue (such as PVA or a glue gun – one that will dry clear). This should help all the pieces to stay put.
Ms Chinoiserie Says: Such a pretty idea – and so simple; I love the idea of baby’s breath – or even dreamy daisies!
