Beatriz & Ariel
Give me an afternoon bathed in golden light and you have my favourite kind of afternoon, so when Beatriz and Ariel’s sun filled park engagement photos landed from Samantha Macabulos I knew I was in for a treat!
Bea tells the tale of how they came to fall in love.”We “officially” met almost 7 years ago at a church picnic although having known of each other for years before that. Ariel had his headphones on, head down, hat covering his face and I thought he was being anti-social. So I approached him and started a conversation, we spent the entire afternoon talking and just getting to know each other. We spent the next month or so chatting almost every night until crazy hours of the morning.”
The proposal was a birthday surprise for Bea who remembers, “It was my 23rd birthday and every year Ariel always gives me my birthday present straight away. Last year he decided to take me to the city. We spent the day like any other typical day in the city whilst I patiently waited for my birthday present. Ariel told me we were going to a nice dinner so I should buy a dress and get my hair done… So I did.
After an entire day, Ariel took me to King Street Wharf. We went to an Italian restaurant (Casa), Ariel told me he hadn’t booked and I was little annoyed because it was my birthday. So we sat down, and usually when we eat out Ariel is always super keen to eat straight away. Not this time. He said we should order our entrees and take our time. Ariel started talking about how this restaurant would be a nice venue for a party. I honestly wasn’t that interested because I was hungry. Hunger aside Ariel called over the restaurant’s “event coordinator” to show us around. She took us to the back private function room. It was beautifully arranged, candles and all.
Here I was thinking we were going to intrude on someone’s private dinner. The coordinator began talking to us about event packages. I wasn’t really listening but tried to stay interested. She then proceeded to ask if we wanted to look at more packages, she then left us alone, or so I thought we were. Ariel took me further into the room and out of the far left corner our closest friends and my brother appeared with instruments set up in addition to two other friends filming in the background.
Ariel then told me to sit down, little did I know what was happening. He then serenaded me with a song ‘Don’t Change’ by Musiq Soulchild, with his friends as back up singers. At the end, he finally gave me my birthday present, he asked me to marry him… To which I cried out a ‘yes’!”
On what he loves about his future wife, Ariel tells ,”What I love about Bea and I is we compliment each other perfectly. We can be opposite personalities at times; but it only means we balance each other out. Right from the start I could tell that she was a very mature individual, beyond her years. She is my best friend whose views and opinions matter the world to me. She offers her complete unconditional love to me and that’s why she is what drives and inspires me.”
Ariel remarks, “Every time we’re together there’s always a funny moment. I playfully tease her in dorky and childish ways just to get a reaction out of her because I find them cute and adorable.
If I had to narrow it down to one of our stories it would be when she surprised me for one of my birthdays. She went to the extent of dressing up in her scrubs and asking me to drop her off at work. So here I was, not expecting to spend my birthday with her, and I went out with my boys for lunch. They agreed to take me out but we end up taking a ‘shortcut’ to Western Sydney Parkland’s where Bea surprised me with all my friends.”
Bea adds, “Ariel is the hardest person to surprise, and his reaction was priceless because he couldn’t fathom having dropped me off at work in the morning then later seeing me at the park surprising him.”
On what she loves about Ariel, Bea tells, “There are so many things I love about Ariel. What I love most is his caring nature and ability to express himself. We can talk for hours on end and not get sick of each other. Even when we have disagreements we don’t stay mad at each other for long because we always break into a smile and laughter then just move on. He always looks after me and is a true gentleman. He is my best friend and completes me.”
Of their photographer, Ariel remarks, ” Bea spent an extensive amount of time scouting various photographers. She was after a particular type of creative style and vision in a photographer’s work. After narrowing her findings to the top 5 photographers, we reviewed them together and both agreed that Samantha was the right person. We could both see in her work that she had the perception of how to capture that ‘moment’. Her photos look natural and unedited with the beauty of light. She specializes in ensuring that the focus of the photo isn’t the props, poses or backdrop but the individuals in the photo telling the story.”
Gorgeous images! I love your use of light Samantha 🙂 thanks for sharing your story Beatriz and Ariel
