Kahlara & Matt
You know what a cold heart needs? A beautiful occasion like this sweet Watsons Bay wedding. After a day filled with such sweetness, so much love and the tale of two highschool sweethearts who finally tied the knot, it’s not hard to feel like it’s a very good day. Lina Hayes (Wild at Heart Photography) was there to ensure every shot was captured.
Kahlara tells the story of how they met. “Matt was my first (and only) boyfriend. We met in highschool and I never knew Matt even existed until year 9 Drama Class. By the beginning of year 10 we were dating. We’ve been together for nearly 9 years now!”
The bride chose a gown by Lisa Gowing, noting, “I wore Lisa Gowing’s ‘Odette’ dress. At the Lisa Gowing store, my appointment was double booked and so Lisa Gowing herself helped me choose a gown and I absolutely adored the low back that Odette has. It brought me back to my ballet roots.”
Kahlara and Matt loved their vendors, from Floreat, who styled the florals to Lillytales who created wooden bookmark favors. The bride remembers, “Our flowers for the ceremony and reception from Floreat were gorgeous and working with Kate from Lillytales and Josh, our Highschool friend, for the stationery was so fun and the results were outstanding.”
The couple chose St. Thomas Anglican North Sydney for their ceremony, remarking, “We go to a small Anglican church in Carlingford regularly, however we wanted a church closer to the reception venue, and the beautiful sandstone features and tall ceilings of St. Thomas in North Sydney stole our heart.”
Kahlara chose “‘Til Kingdom Come” by Coldplay for her walk down the aisle.
Kahlara tells, “We had a traditional Anglican ceremony and sung our favourite hymns (Rock of Ages, And In Christ Alone). We dedicated a passage (Psalm 18) to my late grandfather and our sermon was focused on Ephesians 5:22-33.”
One very special song had to be played at the ceremony, the bride tells. “During the signing of the registry, Mim and Cam (bridal party members), sang a song by The Blackbird Collective (as Matt is the drummer and Cam is the lead singer) called ‘Lover, We’d be Good’. This song was written by Cam and was based on Matt and my relationship, so it was absolutely fitting for the song to be performed on our wedding day.”
The bride tells, ” My cousins, maid of honour and I baked cookies in the 3 days leading up to the wedding so that all guests at the ceremony would have something to take home!”
The newlyweds chose Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel for their reception, Kahlara remarking, “Dealing with Kietah from Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel was a dream!”
The couple chose a cheese stack wedding cake from Salt Meats Cheese.
The reception had a subtle apple theme, as a nod to the couple’s high school romance. Kahlara tells, “Matt and I had a major part in designing our stationery as we used the talents of a Highschool friend studying digital design. Our favours were wooden bookmarks made by Lillytales . These had a quote from Barney Stinson (HIMYM) “Whatever you do in life, it’s not legendary unless your friends are there to see it. – Barney Stinson” with our Apple logo at the base of the bookmark.”
For their first dance, Kahlara and Matt chose an old favourite. The bride tells, “We chose a cover of one of our favourite high school songs ‘Here (in your arms)’ by Hellogoodbye. We had not taken any lessons together, but it went very smoothly. After the first dance we went straight into the Father Daughter dance which was to Joe Cocker’s hit ‘You Are So Beautiful’. This was a really sweet moment for me.”
Congratulations Kahlara and Matt! Thank you for sharing your story with us! Thank you also to Lina Hayes (Wild at Heart Photography) for sharing today’s wedding!
